It’s a real love fest for the Team USA basketball team right now and our man Tayshaun Prince is living the dream as an Olympic gold medalist. Prince didn’t get a lot of clock in the tournament, but he was a part of history and tells the Detroit Free Press that he’s thankful for the opportunity. I can’t wait to see the USA Today ad that UK publishes to congratulate Tayshaun on his accomplishment.
In a somewhat related story, you might want to take some time on this slow Sunday afternoon and take a look back that the 1948 USA Basketball team that won the gold in London. It featured Adolph Rupp as an assistant coach and five UK players, known as “The Fabulous Five”, fresh off of winning the first national championship in school history. Led by Alex Groza’s 11 ppg, the team steamrolled through the Olympic tournament to give the US their second basketball gold medal and cement their place in basketball history.
