Talking 2014 basketball recruits (Wednesday Show Thread)

Jahlil_Okafor01

That’s Jahlil Okafor you’re looking at. Yesterday, he announced he’s going to take his second official visit to Kentucky on September 9th for the UK Alumni Game, which may cast some doubt on that package deal he’s planning with Tyus Jones. Matt and Ryan will talk about Okafor, the football team’s second practice, and whether or not the guy who won the UK/UofL tickets is really a UK fan on this edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

Bryan Station (also Bryan’s Station, and often misspelled Bryant’s Station) was an early fortified settlement in Lexington, Kentucky. It was located on present-day Bryan Station Road, about three miles (5 km) north of New Circle Road, on the southern bank of Elkhorn Creek near Briar Hill Road.

The settlement was established circa 1775-76 by brothers Morgan, James, William and Joseph Bryan from North Carolina. The occupants of this parallelogram of some forty log cabins withstood several American Indian attacks. The most important occurred in August 1782 during the American Revolutionary War, when they were besieged by about 300 Shawnee Indians and British Canadians under Captain William Caldwell and Simon Girty. Bryan Station was located far from a spring that the camp used for drinking water. Since the fort was surrounded by Indians, the men sent out the women to retrieve water and other resources. The Indians would not attack the women and that is why they were sent out to retrieve the water. At the time of the siege the militia did not realize just how many Indians were waiting for them outside of the fort or that these Indians had some support from the British. This attack was a surprise attack and the militia in the fort were unprepared for this attack. The attackers lifted the siege after Indian scouts reported that a force of Kentucky militia was on the way. The militiamen pursued Caldwell’s force but were defeated three days later at the Battle of Blue Licks, about 60 miles (100 km) northeast.

The Bryan Station name comes from: a station was a stop over place (an inn, store, tavern, etc.) during pioneer/colonial times. Daniel Boone’s wife was a Bryan. There was a station located in the current Bryan Station high school area on the road from Boonesbourgh to the west. The station was operated by the Bryan family. Thus, Bryan Station.

I agree with clay…while Jalen didn’t light it up, he threw 2 pic’s in 8 games. If you need anything in this offense it’s good decision making. You gotta make the right checks to the right plays, make the right reads and throw it to the right receiver. Plus he adds that second dimension. I know you don’t have to have mobility but texas a&m ran the air raid with a mobile qb and they had a good offense. You spread a team out 3or 4 wide and get 4 db running with their backs to the qb and the lB come too far up field you have nothing but green grass for a qb to take. He just needs to make sure to protect himself. I think Halen had the potential to be braxton miller-esque

Most of the lower level are gone, save some end zone tickets in one end (on the WKU sideline). Most of the good club level tickets are gone too (only corners).

Of course there are plenty of upper level tickets, if that is where you want to sit.
