Syracuse.com asks, “Who would win?”

Syracuse.com is asking its readers that age-old question: Who would win if Syracuse and Kentucky were to play each other? Together, the two teams have spent nine of the 12 weeks at the top of the rankings, after North Carolina dropped from No. 1 early in the season. The Orange and the Cats are the only one-loss teams in Division-I basketball (I see you, Murray State!) and Vegas has both teams favored to win it all.

The website quotes the Herald-Leader’s John Clay as someone who thinks Syracuse could hold the edge — Band of Brothers, John, rent it. It also asks readers to vote in the poll or leave a comment with their own opinion.

You know what to do.

Flood it.

Agree with you #2. Anyway, the answer would obviously be whoever is playing better that day. If I listed the teams I would most like to avoid in the upcoming NCAA tournament, Ohio State would lead that list but Syracuse would be in the top 3.

It all depends on how good we shoot against that zone of theirs. Anyone who saw them in the second half against UC, saw how suffocating it can be. BUT, the best way to bust the zone is make your 3’s and we definitely have the shooters for it.

  11. GoCats2
    1:12 pm January 26, 2012 Permalink

Miller and Lamb would eat up the zone with 3’s. The poll is now 60-40 Syracuse. UK will take the lead very soon.

Be careful voting multiple times. They switch the teams every time you return to the poll. I may not be the smartest but i figured that out. Half the votes for Syracuse might be a UK fan not seeing the teams switched!

Just got back here from voting and see Drew put it on the website. We were already winning by a slim margin before this post, thanks to the link in the comments. I also noticed while I was over there, they must be having a melt down over the alternate unis also. It appears as if their website has several tricks to deter bots.

    1. The names switch occasionally during voting
    2. Known proxy’s show the page, but the poll is missing

They could be using a whitelist of known proxies. If you know of some unknown proxies, we could easily work around the switching name.

I check the page source, and the poll is linked from here http://polldaddy.com/poll/5879338

If you get blocked by the syracuse site because of voting too many times, you can just go directly to the main poll on this other server and it will let you continue to vote.

I look at this three ways. 1)Currently (with no Fab Melo for ‘Cuse) 2) Currently, if Melo were cleared to play 3) Projecting forward to the end of the season, with or without Melo playing for ‘Cuse

1)Without Fab Melo I would pick us right now.
2)With Fab Melo for ‘Cuse, and the way our team is playin currently, I think I give the edge to ‘Cuse on a neutral court, barely, though we’d probably win 4 out of ten games. That’s based on our recent play. I think they are two games better and get the tie breaker.

IF Terrence Jones becomes as excited and agressive as he was between Midnight Madness and North Carolina, then I’d say we’d win 7 out of 10 games. BUT, that’s not our current identity.

    3) I think if we are projecting what’s likely at the end of the season? I think the Cats will have figured things out. Even if Fab Melo comes back I’d give us the edge and we’d win 6 out of 10 ten times.

I’m a Syracuse grad student and deal with Cuse fans on a daily basis. They have an ESPN affiliated radio show on and the two guys that run that show come up with the most outlandish comments ever about SU being so good. Last night before the women’s game against UCONN they were saying how Cuse had a chance to upset them, they ended up losing by 41. I can’t listen to the show for more than 2 minutes.

12- I read the article as well. The writer forgot to study up and see the schedule Syracuse has played. Their one good win came against Florida and they only beat them by four. I know people will look at Cuse’s RPI and SOS but until they actually play someone ranked in the Top 5 and play them well I say UK wins.
