Surprise! Cats steal one from Alabama

Kentucky just signed Justin Taylor, a running back who had previously committed to play for Alabama. He’s listed at 5’10”, 250 lbs. and also held offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Arkansas.

Alabama wanted Taylor to greyshirt but he wanted the opportunity to see the field right away.

What a huge get for the Cats. One that softens the blow of losing Imani Cross to Nebraska.

Wait a second, what? most of our signees either decide between Kentucky and North Texas State. Alabama? I’m intrigued!

    So a fullback essentially?

    I don’t think he is 250.

He is about 210, via ESPN

Seems to show a pretty decent ability to run through tackles, but not Clemons-like speed. If he gets in open field he doesn’t break away.

I think he’ll be a great compliment to Clemons. Good job Joker.

He’s a big surprise get, and exactly the kind of tough, lower-the-shoulder kind of player Joker needs for his offensive schemes to run properly. Great sign!

Are knee issues the reason why that video was from 2010?

He used to be a running back, just like Josh Clemons, but then he took an arrow to the knee.

He’s 210 not 250. Has a torn ACL. Bama backed off, he’s out for 2012.

We didn’t steal or get the get the kid to flip his commitment.

Bama really didn’t want him. Taylor committed to Saban over a year ago. in between Taylor giving his and signing day Taylor blew his knee out and Bama didn’t want Taylor with this signing class. He won’t play next year more than likely will red shirt. Taylor told the Atlanta paper he was 90% on his knee being healthy. Taylor’s legal gaurdian who is his high school coach told the Atlanta paper he didn’t know about that. He said Taylor just started jogging and running recently.

Alabama saw enough in him to give him a scholly. With the 25 restriction, they wanted him to wait so they could use the scholly on sombody else but they still wanted him. If he is able to play up to his former capabilities then we’ve got a great player.
