Sunday morning lynx

lynx

–The Herald-Leader’s Mark Story writes that the SEC should welcome Texas A&M, with everything it could bring to the table for the conference. He notes A&M’s athletic success, academic standing, television market and traditions as things to be excited about when the Aggies finally come on board.

–John Clay says that UK should not play neutral site non-conference games anymore after Thursday night’s near disaster. After seeing the game, in all of its terrible offense and half-empty stadium glory, I tend to agree.

–Kyle Tucker of the C-J talks about Kentucky’s offense, or lack thereof, in the win over Western, and how Joker was not pleased with the performance.

–A name you might recognize, former UK point guard recruit for the 2012 class, LJ Rose, committed to Baylor yesterday.

–Here’s a little bit from the NY Times about the league that some NBA guys, including Chuck Hayes and John Wall, will be participating in at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas soon. Go ahead, read the story. They need the clicks.

–In his weekly basketball notebook, Tipton writes that one of UK’s newest walk-ons, Brian Long, has a connection to Eddie Sutton, who coached his dad in the 70s. He would bring up Eddie Sutton.

Matt Jones has talked repeatedly about how UK will never be a great football team and he lists two factors (which many UK fans seem to have settled on for years even before Matt was chirping it):

    1. The amount of talent in the state of Kentucky is weak, and you can’t win with talent
    2. We will never get a premier coach

It’s funny how Boise St. continues to prove this theory wrong year after year.
    (both points being rendered unessential).

Most of Ky’s out of state players are from Georgia. Most of Georgia’s players are from Georgia. I see the point. Boise State would whip UK’s as$ too.

I can’t believe my fellow UK fans would dis Boise State. You can argue the schedule is weaker – sure it is – but we would be happy to beat UGa ANY year, Oklahoma anytime after 1950, Va Tech in the last 10 years and Oregon in the last 4 or 5 years.

There is a debate to be had over the non-BCS schools. There is justification in being a typical arrogant SEC fan about it. It isn’t like Boise State is getting in NC games over an SEC school. I think they would just like the same chance the other schools have to get beat by the SEC champion in the NC game.

Kentucky should emulate Boise State’s proven recruiting success strategy.

For us to have 48 “Kentucky” boys with scholarships from a state that ranks in the lower 5% of football players isn’t working.

Boise State has half of that (25) from Idaho (their home state). They are in the same situation we are when it comes to in state talent yet they don’t load up with it. We should take the best Kentucky has to offer, then spread out our search. The Georgia pipeline is a good start, but we need more of that thinking.

Anyone who wants to enter into a serious discussion about this just look at Boise State and explain how they got 12 Texas kids to come all the way up to Idaho (which borders Canada). people talk about how bringing Texas A&M into the SEC will help the other SEC school lay inroads in to Texas recruiting yet where Boise State’s highway coming from? Is anyone going to attribute the signing of all 12 of Boise St’s current recruits from Texas to Texas Christian (located in Fort Worth and also in the Mountain West)? Look a bit further and you’ll see a majority of those kids are in different Texas markets (most from Houston) and only one from nearby Grand Prarie.

Kentucky can win at football. We can compete. It’s all about setting the proper strategy at getting it done.

Boise State has proven good strategy implemented and executed without relying on others to do your work for you. It’s also not surrendering to assumptions (we’ll never be good because we are in a talent limited state) that have no basis in reality.

Hunter, thanks for giving us the heads up on a tipturd link. Us long term members really appreciate it. I actually hate that he’s linked at all, but to warn us ahead of time is more than tipton’s son (Aaron) does. we appreciate it.

UK should focus recruting on Ohio, Indiana, Tenn and Pennsylvania. That and the in-state kids are the model.

    2) UAB
    3) Clemson
    4) Florida State
    5) Georgia Tech
    6) Davidson

    8) Cincinatti
    9) Virginia Tech
    10) Richmond
    11) Virginia Commonwealth

BoiseState has very “lax” college entry standards. Unless it jas changed, they can recruit different players.

#26 – Goode – Are you trying to suggest that KY can’t recruit anyone they want (cough, Bledsoe, cough) due to academic standards being an impediment?

    I think your seriously mistaken.
