Sunday Morning Links with the GIF that keeps giving

Good morning, Big Blue Nation. I don’t know how much fun your Sunday is going to be, but at least we get to wake up this morning after a win rather than a loss. Maybe it wasn’t pretty. Maybe it should have been a 15-20 point win. Maybe we got a little fortunate thanks to John Robic. Maybe we should just enjoy the ride, as Coach Cal often says. Either way, Sunday is upon us and I’m here to set you up with some links to get your day started. Take a moment to really soak in the above GIF before you get into the first link…

What men’s college basketball lacks in quality this year, it more than makes up for in entertainment value. Last night Ole Miss’ Marshall Henderson taunted the Auburn crowd after hitting the game winning free throws. The result was a joint agreement among fans across the league that Henderson is the easiest player to hate this year in the SEC, but also a great GIF dissection by Jeff Borzello in his “Night Court” re-cap. Borzello lists the “MVPs” of the GIF, and to be quite honest…some of them are hilarious.

To be honest, as great as that GIF was, it might not have even been the best one in college basketball. Did we mention that college basketball is entertaining this year? In yesterday’s Providence game, a player was attacked by a bat. That is not a typo.

Yesterday’s slate of games also showed two very different decisions on display with a team up 3 in the final seconds. Jim Boeheim elected not to foul in that situation, John Calipari DID foul. The debate seems to be whether or not the odds are in your favor to take a chance that a team hits a game-tying 3-pointer, or take your chances at only allowing them the opportunity to get 2 points at the line. Mike DeCourcy of the AOL Sporting News took a look at how the “no-foul” strategy often backfires, yet so many coaches use it.

In case you haven’t yet tired of hearing about Alex Poythress finally smiling yesterday, CoachCal.com calls his performance last night a “breakthrough.”

At times yesterday, the Rupp Arena crowd was as loud as ever–seemingly trying to pull the Kentucky team along with them. One person in the crowd yesterday was an 80-year old woman who was surprised with a trip to Rupp Arena for the game. Wanda Collins is an avid UK fan who can tell you each player’s stat line and hometown, but she hadn’t been to a game in Rupp for a long time. She had only been one other time with her late husband, and they had seats at the very top. Last night she had seats right behind the E-Rupption-Zone and the surprise was a good one for Wanda.

If you’ve ever felt down about Kentucky’s offensive production (i.e. the first 12 minute against Auburn), at least we scored more than 4 points in a half. Northern Illinois did not.

And finally, one last straightforward game re-cap from last night’s LSU/Kentucky match-up.

*Or you could use Rick Pitino’s ABSURD end of game strategy from yesterday when he held for a last second shot while DOWN 1 point.

Absurd? What did you want him to do, shoot the ball early and give Georgetown another possession?

Henderson is an ass. Nothing wrong with being excited, but he was fixin to get a good ole fashioned asswhoopin and start a riot with that crowd.

In last night’s post Tucker wrote

“Although the rumors began swirling after the game that Hearns and McWilson committed, the official word has yet to come”.

I would hardly call wildcatbluenation and florida.scout.com official word.

    8) If one of our players went that far the NCAA would vacate all of our championships. But seriously, we’d never hear the end of “low-class UK player”.

This kid is classless…… Whether he’s making out with grenades in a bar or over celebrating a narrow win against one of the SECs worst teams. Wish they would have pulled him in and beat his arse a good one.

Henderson not only went out of his way to annoy the Auburn fans at the end of the game but he clapped and laughed at the opposing player when he make a foul in the closing seconds. You would hope players would have more class and let winning speak for him.

These writers are loving this classless clown but could you imagine if Demarcus Cousins (or anyone) had done that at UK? The backlash would be unbelievable. Hell, he made a simple “Call me” gesture after Miss State fans had been prank calling him all week and people said that was classless. Hypocrites.

I’ve seen the foul method fail and cost UK a game. Against Tennessee. We fouled Alan Henderson, he hit the first, purposely missed the second, they got the rebound in traffic and he scored and got fouled. Hit the free throw and we lost. I’d rather give them a chance to shoot a long 3 to tie it then give them a chance to win it.

What an arrogant little prick Henderson is! I used to hate Noah from UF, but he never sank to this level. I do recall Fitch and Hawkins waving their jersey’s to the Florida fans years ago, but I don’t think they took it to that level.
