Strickland to be named assistant coach at DePaul

Rod Strickland is leaving the University of Kentucky basketball staff for a job with DePaul University, his alma mater. Reports came out earlier today that Strickland was interested in the job, now the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting it’s a done deal. He will be an assistant coach under Oliver Purnell at the school where he averaged 20 points and earned First Team All-American honors as a junior in 1987.
Congrats to Rod on the return home to DePaul and thanks for all the hard work and dedication here at UK under John Calipari.
Cats.

Good luck! Thanks for all your work here.
You mean he’s gonna be working for the sausage guy’s brother? How sweet a gig is that? It’s goooood.
love the shorts Strick!
The stock of our assistants will be sky high this time next year… Whatev.
isn’t he the one who was arrested for drunk driving like twice
Who’s on deck for the open “unofficial” assitant coach position? Bring back Padgett / Delk? Another UK Alum like Estill or Turner? Or someone from outside la Familia?
I really hate to see him go, but wish him the best. Hope he is a head coach some day.
How many 40’s did Strick have before giving up a ring?
DOES ROD STRICKLAND HAVE FACEBOOK??? HUH??? HUH???
9. You do this over and over, but the guy’s name was Mark Hamilton, not Richard.
Congratulations Coach Rod! Best of luck at DePaul.
The mass exodus begins!
Larry Brown thought he had him hired at SMU last year, but they found out he couldn’t go because he didn’t have a degree. Does this mean he has now completed his degree?
There are rumors that KU and UofL are looking to get Rob Fulford, Wiggins’ High School HC. It won’t help them any to get Wiggins since he is ours, but I could see Cal getting Fulford because he has a great pipeline in Canada and there have been some good players coming out of there as of late and he would be great pipeline for the Huntington Prep players.
He’ll learn a lot about sausage under Purnell. “Tastes like country sausage otta taste”!
“It’s gooooooooood”!
Surely we wouldn’t hire a high school coach to get a player who will stay just one year anyway. I never did like that concept. Pitino hired Magloires coach, Mars or whatever his name was. This practice should be outlawed by the NCAA.
Saul!!! Is he still available?
Rod, I wish you and your family nothing but the best. Appreciate all of your work and effort at Kentucky. God bless!
We need an assistant who has NBA backcourt experience and played for UK, either TD or DA would do nicely.
Thanks Strick for all your hard work with the UK program. Cal and all of Big Blue Nation will miss your point guard coaching. Best of luck and always a Wildcat.
Coach Strickland, allow me to add my thanks for all you have done at Kentucky. I wish you good luck and much success at DePaul. As for the speculation on who will replace Coach Strickland, I trust Coach Calipari to make the right hire.
I would love to see DA on staff or maybe even King Rex. Both are very knowledgeable.
Strickland has been a key player in the recruiting successes of Calipari and company – especially regarding the PG’s out there in the country. Just hope Cal gets someone really really good.
hate him.
Wish you the Best, Coach Rod. You’ll always be a CAT.
That’s a huge loss for Kentucky. In my opinion Strickland has been one of the biggest reasons why Cal has been able to land so many talented point guards. Having a 17-year NBA career gives you quite a bit of credibility. .Hope he has great success at DePaul, wish he hadn’t left though.
Our coolness factor is going to take a hit, but it should be an attractive position… Cal should have no trouble filling it. Best wishes to Rod Strickland, one of the games great point guards.
Know it’s not really possible but I’d love to see Boogie as Cals assistant!
Rick Stansberry! A Kentucky boy
Strickland is a smart man. Good idea to get out of dodge before the NCAA drops the hammer on UK and their house of cards.
Thank you Rod Strickland for everything you have done for Kentucky basketball!
Am I the only who thinks this is a weird employment move?
Good luck, Rod “I was the last line of Raekwon’s verse in the Wu-Tang Clan song “Triumph”” Strickland!
im sure he wants to be a head coach, maybe depaul will give him more responsibility to better align himself for that position
