Stoops upset with “very poor” practice

stoops
The only angry picture of Mark Stoops we have.

I knew things were going too well.

After a week of great practices, Mark Stoops just brought everyone back to reality today when he told them how this morning’s practice went. Spoiler alert: it was terrible.

“Little bit of a disappointment today. Very poor day, to be honest with you. Very frustrated. Had to start certain segments over again. Just very weak mentally, physically. Just very average day. So very disappointed.,” Stoops told reporters, citing the team’s lack of focus and attention to detail for their “poor all around” performance. “We wasted the day. We wasted the morning.

Stoops said his guys lacked toughness, something they’re going to have to find before August 31st or things will get really ugly: “We’re not tough enough. …I believe we have good kids here, and they mean well, but we have to have some toughness to us, some fight about us, or we’re going to have a long year.”

Ouch. That last quote is giving me some ugly flashbacks to last season.

One bright spot? Nate Willis, who arrive on campus yesterday and hasn’t even unpacked. It was the JUCO cornerback’s first practice as a Cat, and both Stoops and DJ Eliot said they saw good things from him. He tried to downplay the high expectations everyone has for him, telling reporter he’s “not a savior,” and is just there to do his part.

Za’Darius Smith and Cody Quinn also did not practice again today.

The good news is they’ve got another practice this afternoon and a scrimmage tomorrow to get back on track.

I tweaked an ankle last week and I can’t tough it out through camp. Please stop calling me a SEC caliber defense lineman until I prove myself.

They hype you guys are building me up with has me bound to be a disappointment.

A high ankle sprain can immobilize Hercules. If you’ve never had one then don’t comment. Doctors will tell you they are more painful than just breaking your ankle and the recovery time can be longer as well. You literally cannot walk on a high ankle sprain.

Hello, we’re horrible, Stoops isn’t a freaking magician !! Stoops can’t just make someone who isn’t good good just because we want him to do it. This is going to be a very long year & fans better get their expectations in reality.

#2 Zad gonna hurt some people, #1 target Bridgewater.

I’m curious. Anybody remember how bad/good the practices were the day after JOKER’s pool parties? Maybe fun days and football don’t mix?

This afternoon’s practice will be a batttle. There is no bigger motivator than telling someone they sucked and are being soft.

Keep calm – Joker will drive the ice cream truck to this afternoon’s practice and everything will be ok.

One thing is for sure…we will definitely get a better (or worse?) angry pic of Stoops this season…

Joker would have told the media how awesome the team looked and that Morgan Newton throws the prettiest spiral he’s ever seen.

It’s going to take a few years to clean up Joker’s mess before this team is tough enough and talented enough.

Yup, this is about the time each year when I’d have a blow up or two and blast the team for being unfocused. Part of the process.

#14 Agree in the sense that an important scrimmage is tomorrow so some guys took the day off.

    Z. Smith better be getting better quickly.

And considering other nagging ankles as well, somebody needs to properly tape an ankle. You don’t hear this ankle shit in the NFL camps much.

#18 do you really think a major college athletics program employs trainers incapable of properly taping ankles? Seems unlikely.
