Mark Stoops took his first spin around the SEC Coaches Teleconference this afternoon, and said that so far, he’s very encouraged by his first spring at Kentucky, but he’ll need help going forward.
While Stoops praised his current players for their great attitude and the way they’ve embraced the process, he says that the team needs help at “all positions,” notably the skill positions on defense and offense.
As far as the quarterbacks go, Stoops said that Jalen Whitlow had the best Spring Game, but it’s still an open battle for the starting spot going in to the fall. He was impressed with Dyshawn Mobley and Josh Clemons as well, but when asked about Justin Taylor, he said he has “a lot of work to do.”
The team needs help at all positions, and so far, the staff is doing an excellent job of bringing it in. Stoops praised the work his staff has done in recruiting so far, especially Vince Marrow, and said they’re getting a “good reception” from recruits on all fronts.
How are we doing as fans? Even better. Stoops raved about the crowd at the Spring Game, and said that it’s proof the Bluegrass is ready for football: “The fan base is awfully hungry and wants us to be successful.”
By the way, don’t be alarmed if you see Stoops on TV tomorrow night at the NFL Draft. He said he will attend to support his former Florida State players, two or three of which may go in the first round. If that doesn’t get you excited about the future of UK football, I don’t know what will.
