Looks very fair- Not particularly jaw dropping for the SEC, but quite reasonable for a first-time head coach (regardless of pedigree).
I love the incentives built in- that is how all contracts should be written.
Welcome coach Stoops! Let’s win some games.

Unless you are Urban or Saban, most contracts are built this way. A reasonable salary along with incentives and endorsements. People get up in arms about coaches salaries some times. In actually, a large part of the coaches salary is not paid by Universities. It’s paid through endorsements. Down to the vehicle section. Those vehicles aren’t supplied by the University. 🙂

    3) yeah, I have a feeling he’s gonna get a pretty decent raise in 2 or 3 years

Is there a way to watch the replay of the press conference?

If he wins the national championship & go undefeated, it’ll be ~$3.575 mill depending on which year of the contract he’s in (the last $75,000 assuming he wins national coach of the year bonus, which, come on, if Kentucky wins the national championship he’ll get that bonus).

If we go winless, it’ll be $2-$2.4 mill, depending on which year of the contract.

Oh, and $25k for a team GPA of 2.75. yay

Overall I think this is a good and fair contract. He won’t make SEC-elite money unless he wins the national championship, but he frankly doesn’t deserve to make that yet (hasn’t earned Saban/Miles like money yet).

More importantly, this is a substantial step up from what Joker made.

This is almost exactly what Jokers contract was. A few changes, like the incentive for 1 SEC win compared to Joker who had to get 4. An additional car is on this contract. You can see where UK got screwed in some of the changes during Jokers contract, like APR change lol.

The first line isn’t even a sentence. I’m thinking Matt wrote this contract for UK. Facts are optional.

#9 you are correct. Cal only got one car too.

Mitch: “Eli Capilouto doesn’t mind that I am responsible for paying 2 basketball coaches, and 2 Football coaches at the current time. Neither should you

Coaches I’m Directly Responsible For UK Continuing To Pay:

    Billy Clyde Gillispie — $
    Joker Phillips — $
    John Calipari — $
    Mark Stoops — $

Mitch: “The ticket prices will continue to increase by percentages that curiously don’t match inflation BBN. Why?

This is because the Athletic Department is a quasi-separate entity which funds it’s 2 Basketball Head Coaches & 2 Head Football Coaches currently on the Kentucky Payroll on the backs of the fans, many of whom feel compelled to support the Schools Athletics, since they attended the school.

Why not pay him 1 billion dollars for winning a National Championship? Money wouldn’t matter then because he’ll would have frozen over.

#13 what’s your point? Of course they’re funded by the fans, that’s the consumer base. And prior coaches have to get paid because that’s what happens when you fire someone prior to the end of your contract’s terms which is not for cause. Are you even sure you know what you’re saying?

I have a question to those that are complaining…how many coaches do you think Notre Dame is paying now? How about Texas A&M. Auburn and Tennessee will also be paying multiple coaches I believe. It’s part of the game.

If one does not believe that these bonus dollars are achieveable, then why would one want to see Joker gone? If the fans did not want to see Joker gone, why were there so few butts in CWS on gameday?

My opinion, this is just another typical UK hire for football. Agreed that Stoops has an excellent resume, but this is Kentucky and this is the SEC so don’t expect to see many of these bonsus’s paid. 2.5 mil is likely achieveable in year 3.
