You’ve probably never seen or heard of Tennessee cornerback Ugo Amadi, but you may remember his cousin Collins Ukwu. Ugo may lack the size and massive dreads that his former UK DE-cousin Collins has, but D-I athleticism runs in the family. The Class of 2015 cornerback received a scholarship offer from his cousin’s alma mater this weekend after attending Stoops’ Friday Night Lights Camp.
Amadi is relatively new to the national recruiting scene, with his only other scholarship offer coming from his home state school Tennessee. Despite not having offers to flaunt left and right, Amadi has more than enough athleticism to earn plenty of offers over his last two years of high school. Kids with 4.47 speed are coveted by all coaches, but you cannot measure his ability by a 40 yard dash time. However you can judge his athleticism based on the following: after playing cornerback his entire life, Amadi’s head coach is asking him to become the play-caller on offense next season. “I’ve always played corner, but when your coach asks you to play quarterback it’s real motivating. It means he believes in you and sees you as a leader and someone who can be in control each play on the field.”
There can never be too many athletes on a team, and there are never enough kids that will do WHATEVER a coach asks of them. Amadi is proving early on that he is both. With a little blue in his blood already, the Cats may have a recruiting steal in Collins’ cousin.
