Steve Kerr not holding back on Kentucky

Oh hey, Steve Kerr is back. Kerr had some pretty harsh, and yet very honest words about Kentucky being left out of the NCAA tournament. “When there are 68 teams and you don’t get in, you only have to look in the mirror.”

Kerr went on to expand a bit more on the Cats, “You can look at a number of games on the schedule Kentucky is probably kicking themselves for not winning. Certainly, the Noel injury set them back. They had to re-invent themselves on the fly.” Kerr also noted a weak SEC as hurting Kentucky’s chances.

Even with Kentucky’s exclusion, Kerr said the Cats probably still could have won a few games had they made the field. “That’s how even the field is.”

Syracuse gets in with two sub 40 point games on their resume and practically the same record as UK and they get a 4 seed?

And the fact they picked IU over Miami shows what happens when the NCAA sets in the Big Ten country.

I actually didn’t see anything harsh about his comments.

What do you mean, not holding back? He’s absolutely right. Actually, he’s being pretty nice about it if you ask me.

A couple games in the NIT easily beats having to watch the NBA… #69thbest

He is right…losing one player, shouldn’t ruin the season. I love Cal, but Im not impressed with his adjustments this year. That’s ok…we will be back next year…stronger than ever.

We do NOT deserve a bid playing the way we played. Kentucky Lazy-Cats. We will be lucky to last 2-3 games into the NIT if we play the same as the majority of this year. I am now looking forward to Football…and I usually really dislike UK Football!

With Louisville as the #1 overall seed, the pressure is on them to do what Kentucky did 62 years ago; win their 3rd national championship

I think we should stop worrying about getting what we want and enjoy what we got which is a great history (8) and a great future (2013-14). We are going to get the opportunity to see this year’s team play another home game at Memorial against someone like Murray St? How much fun could that be if we let it.

I really don’t give a crap anymore. This team was just not very good whatsoever and the committee got it right regarding UK. This team is, in many ways, an embarrassment. I guarantee you that Cal has never been more embarrassed by one of his teams. I can’t wait until next season as I feel Cal will work harder than ever to right this ship. In my opinion he will not be embarrassed like this again.

    #12 – Amen!

This team was awful. Not sure we can win a game in the NIT, this team mailed it on Friday – what incentive (outside of the seniors) do they have to play?

    13. Wrong. Word is UK can’t host the NIT thanks to the NCAAs, or don’t want to. Instead of Memorial they aregoing on the road. But that’s just what Matt said and rumors from CatsIllustrated.

13 i agree with you. We can whine and cry all we want and act like spoiled kids but thats not gonna change this season we had. We can either cry like children or act like adults and just move on watch the remaning games in the nit and cheer them on again and then the next and so on. LEts just be honest we are gonna cheer for them no matter how much we cry and complain.

This team doesn’t have the heart to compete in the NIT.A couple of the so called “one and dones” will think they will be 1st round draft picks, and wont play all out risking injury. Pull the plug. Lets focus on next year, and whos gonna be with us…and who wants to leave.

I cannot see this team having the desire to compete! No matter what the coaches or players say to the press, they would all just like to see this thing over with. I think they were ready to hang it up when Noel went down. Ready to move on to next season. Another poor performance in the NIT will just add to the scar this year has left on the BBN and the greatest tradition in college basketball. Fans are ready to move on too. Just let it go and let it become a bad memory!!!!!

garbage. what hurts the cats was that other teams in the sec improved and competed at the end of the season. ie UT, vady, etc.
    not a weak sec schedule.
had those sec teams been worse and/or not improved we win and are easily in the tourney. we had best SOS over bubble teams who made tourney (lasalle, mtsu, stmarys, boisest). well, unless you really think boise st had a top 40 schedule.

One thing disappoints me more than our season: the whining and backstabbing by some of the posters here and other places. You’re either “ALL IN” or “ALL OUT” if you’re a true UK fanatic. Some of you are so pathetic it makes me wonder if you’re really for UK?! Embarrassing!!!

I agree with Kerr. If there is some doubt about being in the top 64 don’t waste the time comparing UK to other teams in the field and moaning about the picks. If it is close enough for debate then KY and the fans, including me, don’t have much to cry about concerning selections or exclusion from the tournament.

It’s good for everyone on this team and the coaching staff to go to Robert Morris and experience this atmosphere. I think it would be great for no UK fans to be in the building. I don’t say this to be mean but just to give them a perspective of what they had (great fans at Nashville} and a great opportunity versus no fans at Robert Morris. Kind of like parents punishment when we were kids. I think it would be a great thing for them to be on their own island for a while and reflect on what they denied their fans.

    19. Yes you ARE crazy. UK is the all-time winningest program and you would have them say no to the opportunity to add to that record? Because YOU are butt-hurt that Freshmen didn’t perform like Seniors? It’s not about YOU. You want Cal’s players to have more experience, but you don’t want them to play more games. Crazy, indeed.

Hey… Bound to happen when you give up 5 or 6 playera a year to the nba. Give Cal a chance. He’s recruiting the best players, what more can you ask. CHILL!!

Sometimes you evaluate an athlete in high school and he or she does not progress as expected, that is what happened with to many of the current players we have. It has happened before with former Kentucky coaches. We as fans have to accept the current situation and move on and look to the incoming class and to the improving Football team. The only thing that worries me is the statement of a kid being uncoachable, when it comes to recruiting. I would think Cal would check more on the heart, motor and if the kids accepts coaching in the future.Hindsight says he has done an exceptional job and will do so in the future.
