Stats don’t lie: Stoops >>> Joker in recruiting

It’s pretty obvious that Mark Stoops is better than Joker Phillips at this recruiting thing. But to make the difference between the two even more defined, Kyle Tucker crunched the numbers, comparing Stoops’ first 29 commitments to Joker’s last 29 commitments. The difference, as you would expect, is glaring. The average commitment under Mark Stoops averages 9.3 BCS offers, while the average commitment under Joker averaged 3.9:
Mark Stoops’ first 29 commitments/signees had a total of 271 scholarship offers from BCS schools. That’s an average of 9.3 per player. A dozen had double-digit BCS offers. Joker Phillips’ last 29 signees had a total of 114 BCS offers, an average of 3.9 per player. Ten of those players had no other BCS offers but Kentucky. Fourteen had none or one other BCS offer. Only three had double-digit offers. Let those numbers wash over you for a moment. Perhaps a couple of charts will better illustrate the stark contrast:

Charts by Kyle Tucker
Another telling stat that Tucker dug up? The conferences that most offered Joker Phillips’ last 29 commitments were the Sun Belt (31) and MAC (23), while so far, Mark Stoops’ recruits have had 70 Big Ten offers, 45 Big East, 44 SEC, 42 ACC/Notre Dame and 32 Big 12.
Stoops, there it is.

Genius post. This shows it so clearly.
Can you give BTI notes on organizing data?
Really, I would think anyone with half a brain would have already figured that one out. Joker, while being a decent individual and player while at UK could not coach or recruit his way out of a brown paper bag.
There was a reason that recruits were laughing at Joker and UK, they already knew the man was FOS.
Duh! I don’t need statistics to know that.
Ok, so maybe I didn’t see that Kyle Tucker made the tables.
^Apparently people only want to see interesting data on things they don’t know already.
Any tables on the amount of rude posters on KSR?
Two important takeaways for this post. First of all Stoops is absolutely killing it. Its so obvious he had planned to be a head coach for a few years and knew exactly how we was going to attack recruiting. Its also important to note that he actually cares about recruiting, where Joker and his staff really didn’t care to go head to head with the big boys. Also, Mrs. TT is killing it. She continues to write informative, creative, and relevant posts on the site.
Is John Clay calling you out on twitter, like you didn’t give credit or something?
Wow,John Clay is calling you out on twitter
Little short on OL’s…and deep in DB’s?
#2 is dead on, what a joke to give joker the Job anyway, hopefully the last of the blind football coaching hires at KY.
Now wait a minute…we were all told how great a job Joker was doing on recruiting…that he was getting the best recruiting classes UK has gotten in forever. How he was a great recruiter. Apparently that was all BS, as we can clearly see he was not good at it at all.
We will be a football school once fans can focus on the futute and not beat a dead gator like JP. Lets move on people
The current perception (and reality) is that the SEC is way ahead of the other conferences. The Big 10 may be the closest competitor.
If “lowly” UK keeps raiding Ohio for players that would have normally signed with Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, et al, then the gap will become even wider.
Stoops and his staff are not only selling UK but also the “Play in the premiere league in the country- the SEC” angle. Under Stoops, UK is gonna benefit greatly under the dominance of the SEC.
The SEC can’t get much stronger at the top levels, but the bottom third could improve significantly if they play their cards right.
For those of us who do not “tweet” please post a link to clay’s tweet. Ha I find it funny if true.
Five of Joker’s 29 were O-line recruits with UK being the only BCS offer.
Kentucky = No winning seasons in the SEC since the 70’s
Also from Mr. Clay: I have tried everything – including Rogaine – but nothing works; any tips?
We need to get over Joker and move on
Why are we still talking about joker again? This just in, calipari recruits are better than gillespie’s
Remember how excited you guys were about those first 29 Joker recruits? You all were destined to compete for the SEC title. What did it get you? It got you a winless SEC season in Year 3. So, now you still have all those players from a winless SEC season and you’re bringing in some similar recruits for this season. Translation = 1 win in SEC. MAYBE, just MAYBE by Year 3 you call can win 3 games in the SEC.
Oh, BTW, UL has a few young 4* guys that aren’t even good enough to crack the 2deep and have had to move positions. You all are going to be relying on them on Day 1.
Thank you for spending time quantifying me.
The sun is hot.
@20 getting a little nervous little brother?
I think Hyde had one offer, from UK, but that is because he committed so soon and shut down his recruiting. The point is still valid, just some of the numbers do not confirm the generalization.
Suck it, b-holes!
My number represents the number of years since UK has beaten Florida in football. (#26)
These stats are MUCH WORSE than they look. Most of Stoops’ commits are class of 2014 and haven’t yet received their senior year offers.
If UL is so great, and UK is so weak, why are their fans on here instead of reading about their wonderful team on their fan site? I have never, once, gone to a UL site and won’t, no need to.
It has to hurt the UK fans, knowing that the only reason Joker had his last year in Lexington was because of his personal relationship and friendship with the UK AD Mitch Barnhart. Too bad too that Mr. Barnhart would allow a friendship to basically destroy the UK football program. Things are looking much better now in Lexington and it is looking like UK football just might be able to compete in the SEC in a few years.
If it wasn’t for UL fans!!!! The spice of life! Like a bad case of athelets foot. Hard to get rid of. Causes foul odor. Lemme tell ya something here, your birds are gonna turn to bluebirds when you leave Lexington with a big – wait for it – wait for it – “L” ! Yea!! Your cheer is ready for ya! You been practicing it, and we’ll help you perfect it!! But don’t dread boys, by years end, our record will help your ratings! (We’ll be the only one that will) can you say OVER-RATED? You’ll learn to.
We get it. Why does KSR keep kicking this dead horse. All this is not needed. We know Joker couldnt get it done and Stoopes is starting out on a roll. I just dont understand why KSR is still throwing blows at a punch drunk fighter. He is gone, all is well stop attacking one of our own.
