Stanley “Boom” Williams will play for Team USA next year

Congrats to 2014 UK commit Stanley “Boom” Williams, who just found out he’ll play for Team USA in the International Bowl next year.

What is the International Bowl? Google tells me it pits the best high school players in the US against the best players from the rest of the world, and will be played in February 2014 in Austin, Texas.

In case you forgot, Williams is the number one all-purpose running back in the nation. Make us proud, Boom.

Sorry if I sound dumb, but is this a new thing? And, where in the world do these other players come from? I was under the impression that American football was pretty much limited to America. Must not be much of a game.

Canada’s obviously going to be there. And there was a German guy who got drafted in the first round, so I would guess that Germany, Netherlands, and a couple other random countries will be there too. I’ll throw Samoa in there too.

i’d never heard of this either … it’s amazing when you start to recruit good players how many more things become interesting … the jordan classic, mcd’s game, etc. are now must watch and i know who every person on the court is, imagine i’ll learn a lot more about the football all-star games, now (thanks ksr) … matt elam is announcing at an all-star game, so there’s a reason to watch that

i’d imagine you could compare this to bball in that (arguably) the best player was wiggins, but when you turn it into usa vs international, he’s not on our team because he’s from canada … think about this with football, a lot of kids are from other countries … think about some of the great players usc has had that are samoan, for example (rey maualuga, troy polamalu, junior seau)

This is the same team that lost to Canada last year. It does not feature any of the best players in America.

All the best players play in the Army All American game or the Under Armor game on ESPN. This game is probably for the guys who are good but not good enough to get into those games. There will not be a lot of major talent in a game like this

there’s some big time schools represented in last years. but these recruits are probably not their blue chip players from their class. but they’re definitely represented there. Jacob Hyde played in it last year. so did ohio st, lsu, michigan commits … so did unc-charlotte commit,

Love the backfield we’re putting together for 2014. With Braylon Heard and Boom Williams we should definitely have plenty of weapons to run at defenses.

I live in Austin and have not attended, but read about this the past couple years. They play it out at Westlake HS (Drew Brees) and the international guys seem pretty decent.
