Stadium Frame’s Final Four Print Wants Afternoon Notes

The celebration is over but it can live on forever inside your home or office with this Final Four print from Stadium Frame. The 34×24 framed photo is matted with coins and features a shot of the Superdome court just after the final buzzer sounded to end Kentucky’s magical 2011-12 season. Go to to purchase the print you see here, or pick out another print or variation of this one from Stadium Frame.

—  Big news today on the football recruiting front as Mark Stoops added another member to the 2013 class.  Melvin Lewis, a JUCO defensive tackle from California, signed with Kentucky today after only a week’s worth of conversations with the staff.  Lewis, who was also considering Miami, Washington and Hawaii, isn’t expected to make an immediate contribution next season and he has said he is okay with redshirting so he can make a bigger impact on Kentucky’s line for two full seasons.  He’s a huge body (6’4”, 320 lbs.) on the inside and has a lot of potential to be a solid contributor in the SEC, especially if he sits this year to learn and develop under Stoops’ staff.

It looks like he signed the LOI in his kitchen…

Welcome aboard.

—  In basketball recruiting news, Andrew Wiggins is still on campus and today is the most important day of his recruitment for John Calipari.  Sure, Wiggins saw last night’s game as part of his official visit, but that was his third trip to Rupp Arena — he attended Big Blue Madness and the North Carolina game last season — so he already had a pretty good idea of how things are done around here.  Today is the real visit, when Cal sits down with Wiggins’ parents and works his magic.  If Wiggins is going to pick Kentucky over FSU, the current favorite, it’ll take a perfect pitch from Cal in today’s conversations. Mama and Daddy are the only two barriers that stand in the way of landing the best high school prospect in the last ten years.

— Ticket distribution for Kentucky football’s Blue/White game began today and seats are going quickly, maybe even faster than expected. Over 16,000 tickets were claimed by noon today and things don’t seem to be slowing down. If you plan on going, you better lock up your tickets at (use the promo code “LOYALTY”) or be prepared to sit a little higher up than you’d like.  It’s pretty unbelievable how Mark Stoops and everyone involved with the program have generated so much excitement in three short months. To put things into perspective, 4,500 fans showed up for last year’s game when anyone could walk right in to Commonwealth Stadium and pick a seat without a ticket.

—  We’ve all enjoyed fun poking fun at ADIDAS’s new basketball jerseys today, but Kansas fans aren’t laughing at their team’s proposed threads for the tournament.  In fact, Kansas fans are so outraged, they’re taking it straight to the White House. The official “Stop Kansas basketball from wearing the new uniforms proposed by adidas” online petition reads, “Adidas has designed uniforms for KU basketball that are stylistically heinous and tarnish a venerated institution. Stand up for our university, for coherent color schemes, and for the spirit of Wilt Chamberlain.”

I’m not a Kansas fan, obviously, but Jayhawk Nation has my full support.  No one should have to watch their beloved basketball team play ball in those shorts.  Except you, Louisville.  Wear those forever.  They look great!

—  According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, four of the 13 projected lottery teams would take Nerlens Noel with the first pick in this year’s NBA draft.  Still think he’s coming back?

—  And as Mrs. Tyler pointed out earlier today, Kentucky is no longer in Joe Lunardi’s Last Four In.  Mr. Bracketology moved Kentucky up to a regular, normal, uncategorized tournament team.  Lunardi’s new bracket projection will be released tomorrow.

—  Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond were at Homerun Burgers in Louisville for this morning’s radio show.  Have a listen as they recap the win over Mississippi State and preview the rest of the season, including Kentucky’s chances to win the SEC.  []

You can’t keep saying “most important in the last ten years” since it was used quite a bit with Wall, Davis, and MKG. Wiggins is more important than those three?

Disagree that Andrew wiggins is a more important recruit than Anthony Davis was. We don’t even know if he will have the POY like impact that Davis did. That being said…GET HIM

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the office with Cal, Wiggins and his parents. What they talk about is something we’ll probably never know, but what I do know is, if I was a fly, I’d definitely be on the look out for a big phat turd to chill on.

Why is Florida St. the favorite for Wiggins? Has he or his parents said so? Or is it that if enough people say it, it must be true?

I’m so sick of seeing unsubstantiated things stated as fact.

Typical drew franklin hyperbole. Just because the team is terrible now doesn’t make Wiggins “most important recruit in last 10 years”. This team is terrible with a bunch of burger boys and has a great class on paper for next year, truth is no one knows what Wiggins means or if this team will be anything other than a top 25 round of 32 team next year. If all 4 freshman go pro we may be in the same boat next year with inexperienced talent that still needs time.

My fears are that with the 8 ticket minimum are that there will be a lot of empty seats because ppl will get the maximum and not use them all. My thoughts? poor decision, and I don’t really get why they are doing it. First Come First serve…now some will be up top looking down at ALL those empty seats… Better idea on how to do it? I don’t know… but just worried on this keeping a lot of people out of the good seats.

“Most important”? How can you get more important than winning every award and winning a championship?
You can’t. So even if he dominated everyone’s face off – he would be equal to Davis.

I agree with #8; If all 4 freshman go pro we may be in the same boat next year with inexperienced talent that still needs time. Hard to catch lightning in a bottle, so to speak. It takes a group of special individuals to adjust to all of the nuances that come with; being a college student, fitting in as a new player on an entirely new team where few if any have actually played a game together, figure out how to handle the expectations and pressures that come with being a highly regarded basketball player in the pressure cooking fish bowel that is UK. Mastering all of this in about six months is far from easy…….but that is the expectation.

Anyone else notice the KU petition was started by someone in Bloomington, IN? Maybe someone in Lawrence, KS could petition the president to only allow universities to hand out rings to teams that go further than the sweet 16.

Kansas coach already said KU would not be wearing those in the NCAA tournament. Kansas will only wear them in the Big12 Tournament and only for a game or two. So Kentucky is gonna be the fanbase that points and laughs at what other kids are wearing, nice.

27 At the very beginning of the game he did hold up the one of wiggins as wiggins was waking to his seats, all of the letters on the jersey had tape over them except the K and Y. As soon as he held it up three people walked over to him and made him put it down and I didn’t see it or the rest of the game. I was baffled at how many fat heads referee guy and his crew held up though. He had at least 5 or 6 different ones; one of which was a fathead of the kid who sits under the goal and wipes the floor down when players fall which I though was absolutely hilarious.

We happen to be the destination for top flight talent in the nation. The fact is everyone wants to be in the NBA ASAP and I agree that “if you get hurt you might get nothing” is a valid philosophy. We should all feel that way if we have any empathy and coach cal resonates with these kids and their families. I have a lot of confidence that will have Wiggins and randle both. I can say this from watching the recruiting process and listening to coach Cal speak. His last comment was that everyone wants to be here. Wiggins will start and have a Lot of minutes. He will not have the “weight of the world/attention” on him as he will not have to bolster most of the scoring, he will not have seniority issues as well as the entire number of recruits and coach should tell him you look great when you have great players around you(if you are a balleryou know exactly what I am talking about). Finally, don’t you want to win a championship!
The same goes for randle, and he really likes coach cal and wants noted Andrew Harrison as the player who most wants to play with next year. He also will not need to worry about starting and we as Kentucky fans should be going crazy with the the most highly talented basketball team without doubt in the history to be assembling in front of us.
Ps Gordon is a dynamic balller but will likely stay out west with the other two coming here(the only school that can steal randle is Kansas and that would bring Gordon back in the mix). We will have two of the top three recruits remaining.
    Here’s to the future

    @36, I’ll take the bait…1)Wiggins, 2)Randle, 3) Gordon.
I think Randle’s ability to create offense from the post-up and face-up position is something we haven’t had in a while. I think he his farther ahead in his offensive repertoire than Gordon is. I think Gordon and Lee are somewhat similar. However, I would be very happy if we only got Gordon out of those 3. He could take a game over without needing the ball in his hands. Offensive putbacks, alley-oops, rebounding, etc. I just prefer Randle.

    42) From what I’ve seen you kinda are splitting hairs between Gordon and Randle. Both are great players and I would love to see Cal get either one. Wiggins is the best player I know, but the difference between UK and FSU is we don’t need Wiggins! Sure we want him but he could only mean beating teams by 25 instead of 15. If we get 1,2 or none of the 3 it still going to be a great year!
#8 your little rant just shows your a troll! Incase you have been under a rock Cal has done OK with freshmen dominated teams at UK. Yes this team is down compared to our recent teams but in no way are they terrible. This team could very well be a sweet 16 team if they continue to improve as they have been. It takes time for a young team to get things together. I think it’s unfair to compair next year class to this years. By all accounts the talent level of next years class is support to this year. 4 out of the 6 could play in the NBA now! Cal said that the only player on this years team who could have started on his other teams at UK was Nerlens and he’s hurt!
