St. John’s Fan Isn’t Impressed With Nerlens

Were you impressed by Nerlens’ 12 blocks against Ole Miss?  Sure, most of us were.  Chad Ford, NBA guru, said it might have been part of one of the best 2-point performances of all time.  It beat the previous school record by a whopping 33%, and is the most blocks in a single game this season.  Pretty impressive, right?

Apparently not everyone feels the same way.  A St. John’s fan made this “meme” (and I use that term loosely) to show their feelings toward those 12 blocks:

For the record, Chris Obekpa (pictured on the bottom) recorded 11 blocks earlier this season.  Which, you’ll note, is one fewer than 12.  It was also his first time this season picking up double-digit blocks.  It was also against Fordham, whose tallest player is a whopping 6’9″.  Not sure why there’s that much to brag about for Mr. Obekpa.  Maybe this St. John’s fan is just salty that Obekpa has the second most blocks this season, behind Nerlens.  I imagine the maker of this image to look something like this:

You know what I think is cute (besides Gemma Arterton)?  Dunks.

Actually Obekpa currently has more blocks, albeit with one more game…but he’s also averaging more than Noel too… http://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/individual/138

    Yeah, he dumb.

Obekpa: 91 blocks thru 20 games, 4.57 BPG, 3.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 23.3% from the charity stripe
    Nerlens: 95 blocks thru 20 games, 4.75 BPG, 10.2 PPG, 9.3 RPG, well… better than 23.3!

Hey, Corey, any idea how tall Ole Miss’s tallest player is? Take a guess? No, 6’9″. Also, how many games has Nerlen had double digit blocks in a game this year? I believe that number would be one. Not taking anything away from Nerlens, but pointing out that covering UK sports in the “most ridiculous manner possible” has increasingly become the “most stupid manner possible.”

Make fun of what the fan did because it makes no sense, but don’t add to the stupidity.

Some people on here are a little too picky about what posts they get from a free site. As many have pointed out this was simply a reason to post the dunks from TJ and Miller. And I believe this site should take every available opportunity to post those dunks.

I was interested to see if Obekpa had more than one 10+ block game which might make the original meme make sense, but no. And in conference play Obekpa is averaging 3.55 blocks per game.

On the other hand, Noel is averaging 6.86 blocks per game in conference play. It is likely that number will come down some because players will stop challenging him. But it’s clear right now who is the best shot-blocker in college.
