Sportscenter talked about UK more than any other college basketball team in 2012

ku-xlarge

In 2012, Deadspin’s Patrick Burns watched every single 11 p.m. episode of “Sportscenter.” That’s 23,000 minutes, or 16 entire days of non-stop sports news brought to you in the most ESPN manner possible. Seven months out of his experiment, he has a plethora of stats on which teams made the news show, and what stories got repeated over and over again.

Not surprisingly, Burns found that Kentucky was the most featured college basketball program on the show during 2012, which was, of course, the year they won the title. The Cats were talked about for 155.25 minutes, filling up 0.9% of the program’s annual content. Overall, they were the 5th most talked about sports team, right behind Alabama football:

MOST-COVERED TEAMS BY SPORT (2012)

Miami Heat (NBA): 962.75 minutes (5.5%)
New York Yankees (MLB): 410.25 (2.4%)
New York Giants (NFL): 362.75 (2.1%)
Alabama Crimson Tide (college football): 208.75 (1.2%)
Kentucky Wildcats (college basketball): 155.25 (0.9%)
Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL): 56.5 (0.3%)

Go check out the entire study to find out other interesting stats, such as just how much Sportscenter talked about LeBron in 2012. (Spoiler alert: a lot.)

Colin Cowherd talked about UK football 3 times this week. He made fun of them sending so many letters to the recruits. What did Stoops do, they sent Cowherd 50 letters signed by the staff.

They weren’t the 5th most talked about sports team. Re-read the article.

    4) I feel bad for him as a person, but I find it hilarious how he went from all ESPN would talk about to practice squad in New York to traded. According to Skip Bayless, he’s a fantastic QB. According to NFL decisionmakers, he’s not.

Maybe if he learned how to practice like most athletes in team sports he could get a chance to play again.
