Since it’s the summer and there just doesn’t seem to be a whole lot going on, your little sports mind is probably being overwhelmed with enough lists, tournaments and countdowns to make you think the producers of The Best Damn Sports Show Period! have taken control of the world. Never one to be left standing on the porch while the cool kids are playing roller hockey in the streets, the Sporting News runs down the 50 Greatest Coaches of All-Time and the list includes a trio of former Wildcats. While Adolph Rupp (#21, behind Coach K)is the only one who primarily did his coaching at UK, former Wildcat Pat Riley finds himself on the list at #30 and the man who got away and whose ghost may or may not still haunt Commonwealth, Bear Bryant, finds himself at #3. The list is topped off by former UCLA coach John Wooden.
The selections were made by a star-studded panel of coaches and broadcasters, including Rich Brooks and C.M. Newton.
