South Carolina vs. Ole Miss: Domination or Revenge?

Reluctantly push play. Watch. Think “SMH”. Get mad. #BashWednesday.

Strings, right? Tomorrow at 3:30 PM, the second game of the SEC Tournament gets underway with USC(E6) squaring off against Ole Miss(W3). If you are not in Atlanta and like watching painfully boring basketball (aka a Big 10 fan), tune into the SEC Network for your viewing pleasure.

Hopefully, the only people who hate re-watching Chris Warren’s game winner against UK more than us fans are the players and coaches themselves. This was a painful loss that came about in a similar fashion to many of our road losses. We all know the paradigm by now: come out slow, fall behind, get lazy, make a valiant comeback, then shoot ourselves in the foot and fall short.

For our 3:30 PM Friday game, we get a another shot at Ole Miss, so long as they beat USC. The question is, however, would we rather dig deep into our hate and lay a revenge-filled smackdown on Warren and the Rebels… or would we rather coast against the lowly Gamecocks, who we nearly broke 100 against in February?

The question is fairly moot, as UK has enough talent to put either of these teams away in easy fashion. The unfortunate part is that we failed to do just that at Ole Miss earlier in the year. It is safe to say we have upped the ante when it comes to our level of play in close games as of late. It is also safe to say that Atlanta will be more of a home game than anything. I would love to see an epic beatdown of the Napoleonite Chris Warren for what his billy-goat beard did to us in our last meeting. On the other hand, I realize that if we get in a tough battle with Ole Miss, it does not bode well for the legs of a 6-deep team (albeit the most talented) as they progress in the tournament. It does not matter which team we face if we play as well as we should, but it would be a hell of a lot more fun to stomp a little retribution into Ole Miss.

I want to see Deandre get a chance to show what he is made of again.

“I think Chris Warren got the best of me,” Liggins said.

Cry me a river. You lost I have a lot of respect for UK basketball, but it’s garbage like that, that makes everyone hate UK just like Alabama in football. Rather than give someone props and say it was our defense that forced those 18 turnovers against UK the first game, you want to complain and give Ole Miss zero credit. It’s all what UK didn’t do, not what Ole Miss did. So cry me a river about it, but your arrogance is your downfall. It’s also yet another reason people don’t like you rather than do like I’m sure Calipari is and give Ole Miss respect and know they will come to play, all you can say is how UK will destroy Ole Miss. It didn’t happen the first time it won’t happen this time, that doesn’t mean UK won’t win, but show a team that’s already beaten you once some respect. People will respect you as a fan base a little more if you do.

The reason people don’t like Ole Miss fans is two pronged. One is you can’t put together cohesive sentences. Two is Dexter McCluster’s commercial/ song about texting.

uhm Ole miss sucks and is generally talentless outside of warren. UK is extremely talented, on the other hand. So what the heck do you want us to admit, that youre the better team? um no, because Ole miss sucks. We lost to a ton of teams on the road, not just you.

You want to see the mindset of UK fans and why we give you no respect? Here’s why: Because we see year in and year out these pathetic SEC basketball teams whos fans could not possibly care less about their team, all of a sudden get hyped up when UK rolls into town. That is the only time you will pay note to the fact you even have a basketball team. You host a “red-out,” every team does it. Ole Miss has done it the past two times weve played there. Your fans go nuts and pack the place. Guess what happens every single other game when UK isnt there? It’s empty and the “fans” no longer care. The players play out of their minds against UK, they always do. Why do you think so many teams that pull off a crap upset against UK go on to lose the one right after? it’s because they blew their load against UK. It happens EVERY GD ROAD GAME UK PLAYS, year in and year out. Few understand this besides UK. UNC, duke, kansas, maybe michigan state understand. But none like when UK comes into town. Go ahead and throw up a crap three, it will go in because it’s against UK!

I hope you enjoyed your fluke win this year. One of our many losses on the road. Congrats! Your program has and always will be completely irrelevent. Your “fans” do not deserve success in basketball.

We will crush you if you dont lay an egg vs USC. Hey, they beat our great team on the road last year even though they suck, but we should give them credit anyways right?!

#2 you have to give warren props he knocked down a hell of a shot, rattled it home, but you would have to love our chances in a rematch. Ole Miss has had some solid teams lately and i root for sec teams when we are not playing them.Everybody is just having some fun before the tournaments starts so dont read to much into everybody trying to talk trash like liggins on hopson.

I agree strongly with #13. Ole Miss decided to finally care about their basketball team enough to record a crowd of more than 150 because it is exciting to watch your team play the best. We are a good team made up of very good players and Ole Miss quite frankly has nothing besides Chris Warren who doesnt seem to really have a promising NBA career. I also agree that this happened to us on every road loss. We are the school’s gameday so the team is more fired up about playing in front of a 3/4 full gym as opposed to about 100 people. Saying Ole Miss is just not right. kentucky is just clearly better and you can’t argue even if you managed to pull of an upset against us. And obviously everyone in the country thinks we are good as well otherwise we wouldn’t still be in the top 25 or a 3-5 seed in the NCAA tournament (which Ole Miss is neither). So my direct comment to #2 is have fun watching us in the NCAA while Ole Miss fails to make the NIT.

Seriously UK fans – if Ole Miss truly is a terrible team – then that makes our loss to them even worse than we first imagined.

Truth is Ole Miss beat us that night because they played better than we did on that night. It’s been 35 years since any team has gone undefeated and there is no shame in losing a a game or two to a team who steps up and performs.

I’m as arrogant as fan as there is when it comes about bragging about our Titles and winning percentage and all-time wins – but it’s annoying when you can’t give credit to a team that outperformed you earlier in the season.

Now – let’s hope UK can play smart for the next three games. Let Darius keep playing well, and tell Liggins to keep his mouth shut. Not only could it cost us a technical late in a close game – but it really isn’t what Kentucky should be about.

I’m not an Ole Miss fan, I come here because I grew up in Kentucky and my wife raves about this website. Also Matt Jones was in one of my teachers weddings here at Ole Miss and Professor Hall is who tipped me off about the website to share with my wife. Bet most of you didn’t know that he had a good friend teaching at Ole Miss. They have fairly good news here, and it keeps me informed, laugh at Ole Miss all you want, but showing some respect every now and then will get you a long way. I generally don’t hold ill will towards Kentucky, but a lot of people around the conference do and the arrogance is why, like I said same for Alabama football.

“Ole Miss” fan who is not even an Ole Miss fan,

This post is not a prediction for how or why we will beat Ole Miss, nor it is an explanation as to why we lost. It is merely a question of what fans would RATHER see.

For the record, UK could have blown out Ole Miss. They didn’t. They played BAD and still had a chance to win. Ole Miss played good, congrats to them. Doesn’t mean they still should have lost despite their efforts. And obviously some players, as the Chris Warren shot/video shows, made big time plays for them. They get credit for that.

So before you waste your time writing a paragraph long comment that is completely off-base, take time to understand what you are reading.

Ok, I agree with pretty much every CAT fan on here that every team puts on their A-game when it comes to playing Kentucky. Like Coach Cal said last year “We are the biggest game on everybody’s schedule, when they play us they will be ready.” Same holds true for Ole Miss and all of the road losses we have tagged to this season to some of the worst teams.

I actually went to the Ole Miss game took the 8 hour trip from Lexington with 4 other guys all the way down to Oxford and I seen more BLUE than Maroon before gametime. Even as we walked into the stadium 30 minutes prior gametime Blue still outnumbered Maroon. The fans at Ole Miss really dont care about basketball there, the only ones that really seemed hyped was the student section, other than that were the I guess you would call them “Maroon hairs” lining the season ticket holder spots in lower arena.

I talked to an Ole Miss fan and you may find it interesting that Tickets are only $15/game there, you can get be a season ticket holder there for LESS than the price that you would pay to be a season ticket holder in the upper arena for UK football (around $200).

I don’t know how it looked on TV but for a 9,000 seat arena there were still a lot of open spots and the red-out was a fail. We actually walked around and picked up The “Rebelution” shirts after the game cause I needed some new shop rags.

So I say all that just to prove to “Ole Miss Fan” that its not about giving Ole Miss credit for beating UK on a last second shot on a very off night for the CATS, because realistically Ole Miss still played bad, when you give so many open looks to a team wanting to upset a Top 25 team then they better be able to make those shots or they should just cut off funding for the basketball team. Don’t be stupid Ole Miss is still Ole Miss and UK is and always will be UK.

    Go CATS!

Why does the Chris Warren shot look strikingly like the FLA Walker shot from almost midcourt AND all the ARK Roteni shots? It is because we continue to set up defense of the three inside the line. Yeah, we have done slightly better last couple of games BUT Cal should show the team the W.Va/Marquette game last night and say to them, “THIS is what I am attempting to get you to do on defense”.

I think it might be good for out team to play them again. Cal could use it as a motivational tool. Alabama too, for that matter.
but from my standpoint, as long as we win I don’t care.

Last game was a complete fluke.. What happened last game was exactly the recipe every team has used to beat us on the road this year and the same thing teams like Gardner Webb used to beat us in years past. They have some good player on their team who sees Kentucky on the opposing jerseys and absolutely goes off and has the best game of their career. Warren played out of his mind in that first game, he hit everything he threw up including that garbage at the end. Kentucky won’t let that happen again, plus it’ll be a home game for Kentucky in Catlanta.

Comparing our Basketball program to Alabama’s football program?? I’ll take that as a compliment! If our team doesn’t have some sort of swagger (aka the first part of the year) then we don’t deliver on the court. If obnoxious and arrogant fans give our team more confidence and “swagger” then it’s our duty as fans to talk sh*t.
