South Carolina Saturday

south carolina

When I think of South Carolina, a number of things come to mind…Hootie and the Blowfish, the Confederate flag, Steve Tanneyhill, the chick I met in Columbia, crazy politicians, Greeneville (which is a great place) and now of course, Steve Spurrier. I am not sure what it is about the state, but it seems to produce its share of oddities. Whether it is screaming Congressmen, governors hiking the Appalachian trail, the guy who got arrested with getting with a horse for the second time or Lou Holtz, people in the state end up just doing strange things time after time. I say that only to remind Kentucky fans that as they get ready for this big game, remember that win or lose, we cant out crazy South Carolina…and for that we should be thankful.

— Not much in the way of news on a Friday night (although I think Calipari spent the day at a bank in Somerset…which shows that he will truly go anywhere), but there has been a rash of recruits deciding not to come to Madness. There had been some worries from a group of UK fans (who worry about everything) that maybe Calipari had “overbooked” Big Blue Madness with recruits. Well if that is the case, you dont have to worry now. Marquis Teague, Angel Nunez and Josh Selby have all decided not to come to UK next weekend for the event. Each has different reasons…Teague’s dad cant get off work…Nunez is coming in November…Selby doesnt want to come when Kyrie Irving is here…but the end result is more room and food for the other visitors.

— A belated birthday to the UK Wildcat that turned 100 today. Hunter Campbell had a good post on him earlier, but we should have honored him in the News and Views Friday morning.

— I watched the Championship game of the WNBA for a few minutes tonight and was entertained…there I said it…lets move on.

Randall Cobb and Calvin Harrison are game captains for the South Carolina game today. Pray for our secondary as Burden and Neloms try to step up for the injured starters.

Darnell Dodson can light it up…just trust me on that…now lets hope someone else on the team can as well.

— Why do I feel like Nevada plays Louisiana Tech on ESPN every Friday night?

We wont be doing a Live Blog for the South Carolina game, because I have made the executive decision to go watch the game with the Turkey Hunter out in Louisville at a bar filled with UK fans. However we will have an open thread on here for you folks to discuss the game and will be back afterwards for post-game coverage.
