If you havent noticed (and I know many of you havent) baseball is taking Kentucky by storm. Whether it is the Bat Cats (seeded 4th in the SEC Tournament) or local high school baseball, the sport is picking up popularity around the region. Nowhere will this be more true than on Tuesday night at Tates Creek High School (5:30 PM), in the first round of the district baseball championship. Two of the top left handed pitching prospects in the nation will face off against each other as Nick Maronde from Lexington Catholic and Robbie Ross from Lexington Christian (pictured above) take the mound. Both are extremely talented and both are considered likely MLB first round draft picks in this June’s draft. Maronde has signed with Florida and Ross with UK, but both are likely to go pro.
It is quite the unique experience for a large city to have such great pitching prospects in the same area, so its extremely rare for a place like Lexington. There will be MLB scouts galore at the game and if you have any interest in baseball, you should make a trip out to see the action. We will let you know how it goes….
Thanks to Chris Campbell for the heads up
