Some Hump Day Football Notes

Whitloe etc.
Whitloe etc.

– Earlier today Neal Brown tweeted the picture above of Jalen Whitlow and other Wildcat Footballers celebrating Dr Suess’ birthday Saturday, by reading to children at the mall. In case you were wondering, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are new Stoops’ recruits.

– Kentucky has distributed over 33,000 Spring game tickets, which will make the game one of the highest attended Spring games in the country. These numbers- along with Stoops’ higher rated recruiting class-  may have gotten under Little Brothers skin. How does Louisville react? To get more fans in the seats they are offering a $1 beer promotion for the game. With that offer on the table they can finally compete with the Louisville Bats’ crowd. I doubt it’ll work; they should be offering $1 Crown Royals.

– With Spring practice less than 2 weeks away, #BBN will finally get a taste of how last year’s Cats are handling the changes within the program. The hot button issue all Spring will be around the development of the QBs in Neal Brown’s offense. Max Smith seems to be the Vegas favorite, but early buzz around the team indicates that Jalen Whitlow will not be backing down without a fight, looking very sharp in winter workouts. The QB competition alone should be enough to make the Spring game very entertaining. I still have fingers-crossed, hoping Stoops allows for a couple open practices before the team takes the field April 13th.

– I think it is now apparent that Mark Stoops likes Ohio as much as high school kids from Ohio like Coach Stoops. As Tyler mentioned earlier, 4 -Star 2014 offensive guard and Ohio State commit Marcelys Jones received an offer from the Cats. A few hours later he tweeted, “Just because you committed don’t mean anything until you sign that letter that’s were most people get lost at.” While it is very premature to get your hopes up for landing the Top-100 recruit, it should be satisfying knowing that your coach is going after the best of the best. I doubt Joker Phillips would’ve done the same.

Little Brother?? Who spanked Florida, and who hasn’t beaten them in 30 yrs??? Please!!! …1 semi-decent recruiting class does not make your football program an SEC powerhouse. Talk some smack when you’ve actually accomplished something…like win the SEC championship…heck, try winning your division! Actually…try beating more than Vandy every year. UK Football = perennial doormats of the SEC! Just like some delusional UK football fans to talk smack when they haven’t done squat in God knows how many years.

Quit criticizing Joker and let support Stoops. I bet Stoops would agree with this statement. Show class Kentucky!

1- While some of your comment has merit, let us not forget it wasn’t long ago that you were getting spanked by the cats four years in a row. You have now won two in a row so congrats for that my friend. That being said, the fact that you are on a Kentucky website suggest you may have some worry what the future holds for UK football.

    1) Louisville beat down (credit where credit is due) Florida 1 time, but try playing teams of that level every weekend in conference play. No one I know of legitimately believes we’re going to win the SEC Championship or our division this year or for the next couple years. However, for a team that has been the worst in the SEC, any progress is good progress and our future is finally bright. Until you all hang more titles in basketball, you will always be little brother. Which basketball team won last year during the regular season? Who won last year in the NCAA tournament? Who won the championship and hung #8? Don’t think it was Louisville. Why aren’t you on a UofL site looking up news? Oh yeah, because you’re like most other UofL fans who care more about UK than they do their own team.

    1) It’s a good thing Louisville has never been beaten by UK in football. How embarrassing would that be?

Also, you know you’re leaving the Big East, right? Enjoy your new conference schedule. It’s gonna be a bit different.

No, it’s called respecting one’s competition (and my father being a UK alum)…UK had an incredible (bball) team last year, and beat everyone senseless to claim that title…I give y’all props for that. I’m not some delusional fan thumping my chest, and belittling some other team’s fanbase when my team hasn’t accomplished anything worthy of being smack talk fodder. Yes, i’m a diehard CARDS fan, but i’m also a realist. As for our schedule…we’re in the Big East…this year, we played an ACC team (UNC), and an SEC team (UK?) plus our league teams. Jurich and company have tried to schedule home and aways, but you’re not gonna find any big name schools ponying up for that b/c it’s not worth it to them to get a non-conference loss. One more year, and we’ll be in the ACC…so FSU, Clemson, Va Tech on a regular basis will fix that problem. If UofL can compete in football, I don’t see any reason why UK couldn’t either?? The whole SEC argument is a copout. Everyone can recruit out of Florida now (which Stoops is doing). UK fans always bring up how great your bball program and tradition is, but the football program has been an afterthought up until recently (Stoops hire). Again, lets accomplish something before we go on a trash talking rant…that’s being a realist. UofL won the BigEast, got chosen for the Sugar Bowl, spanked a good Florida team, and won a BCS bowl. If the likes of Arkansas and South Carolina can play for SEC championships…I don’t see why your Wildcats can’t.

9 – Han…you know we are talented enough to beat the likes of Florida…right? That did happen if i’m not mistaken. Also, we don’t have Krapthorpe leading the way anymore…”in Cholly we trust!” Add him, good recruiting from the sunshine state (Teddy) and some pretty decent homegrown talent (Quick, Parker, etc.)…and I think we’ll be alright in the ACC.

2, really, stfu. Joker being a “nice guy” killed our program…I’m surprised daddy Matt let Nick write something about his precious Joker. He was a train wreck, and yes, he is gone, but sticking your head in the sand is no way to deal with reality. Stoops is just showing that all the excuses that Joker lovers made about being at UK were complete lies. That is why the comparisons will be made.

    11) I was being facetious. Outside of FSU, who exactly is scary in the ACC right now?

There is lots of parity in college athletics nowadays…Va Tech will get better…Clemson was pretty good last year…isn’t their QB Boyd returning? UNC and BC are comparable to those lower tier SEC schools. Miami is well…they’ve cheated their way to pariah status. If UofL can get through the ACC with say 1 or 2 losses, that’s still pretty respectable. They’ll have the opportunity to play for ACC championships…which UK could as well if they quit acting like crybabies and man up. UK owns (until this year) SEC roundball…with the amount of money y’all generate from that, not sure why it doesn’t get funneled into the gridiron…where you could make way more money. The Stoops hire was a good get…I give Barnhardt credit for that. I just don’t understand why it took forever and a day to get to this point. Who cares if you play in the big bad SEC…you don’t see Auburn, AL, TN, GA, etc. making any excuses. There needs to be an attitude change…your bball program settles for nothing but the best…why not football?

you can say “who is scary right now” but you can’t legitimately say UK would have been better than bottom 3rd of the ACC last year. Talk SEC tough guy all you want but after last season UK is abysmal until proven otherwise

excitement for what pooper stooper is selling for you doesn’t make UK any better, it just makes you all naive

15 & 16…I’m no UK fan, but Stoops was a good hire…he was FSU’s defensive coordinator and they were pretty good…granted he will no longer have FSU type athletes in abundance, but I do believe he is a good coach. And, as you can see from UofL…a former defensive coordinator can make a pretty good head coach.

10 talk about “beating your chest”…you bragged about Louisville winning the Big East. Lol…last I checked they tied w Rutgers, Cinci, and Syracuse. They only went to the bowl bc they were seen as the best of those 4 teams. Seems like they were the right choice, but let’s not act like they dominated the mighty Big Least.

  19. Mike and Ike
    11:39 pm March 6, 2013 Permalink

18 – tied and were ranked higher in the AP poll…so in my book, that constitutes winning b/c we were chosen to go to a BCS bowl. And as for mighty Big Least, your pathetic Joker coached team would’ve been at the bottom of our league…hell, y’all lost to WKU! So again, I am stating facts and accomplishments. Come back to this argument when your team has won something. UofL, 2013 Sugar Bowl Champs…beat down of the mighty SEC Florida Gators…whom y’all haven’t beaten since…???

Seems like a “national power” coming off a Sugar Bowl win wouldn’t have to resort to $1 beer to lure fans.
