So close… Georgia 29, Kentucky 24

Kentucky hung in there throughout the entire game, but couldn’t get the W in the end. The Cats fell to the Dawgs 29-24.

It’s tough to be critical of Joker and his guys after this one. I’m going to blame the running into the kicker penalty in the 4th quarter. The call killed Kentucky’s momentum and stole an opportunity for UK to put together a potential game-winning drive.

Rashawn will be by shortly with more from the game…

1, you do realize we were using our 3rd and 4th string QB’s against the 11th team in the country right?

#4, I completely agree. However, I also understand why they called it. It’s an iffy call either way. I’m just happy by the resiliance our boys showed tonight. We may not be getting wins, but other than the Arkansas game I’ve been optimistic with what I’ve seen. We’re so close to making big plays on offense and defense. I can’t wait to see how our young guys progress in the future. I’m one of the few that thinks we should keep Joker around.

Don’t forget we only lost 19-10 to Georgia last year and still got throttled by vandy. This game is rarely an indication of how good or bad our team is. Just having all those Georgia players on our team makes us play inspired every year versus the dawgs!

#9–THANK YOU! Towles was 4th string (proof that our staff can’t judge talent) and Newton was ahead of Whitlow at the start of the season. How sad is that? Newton is just as much of a joke as Joker.

    10:53 pm October 20, 2012 Permalink

All this shows is that the players are talented enough to compete with SEC teams(whitlow is talented just not starting QB material). The issue is and has always been the coaches. We have an offensive minded HC and have had anemic offenses the last two years. Even with smith we had trouble moving the ball against UL or WKU. Mitch needs to get a defensive minded HC for the young talent on the defensive side of the ball(cough, Kirby Smart, cough). Then find an OC that can develop a QB correctly and knows how to use the offensive talent on the field. If our defense could’ve slowed the UGA passing attack even slightly we would’ve won.

We are uk football. . I cant believe we expect such greatness.. Why can’t we just take a step back and leave joker alone. How crazy and disgusting is that all we care about him is getting him fired. Our team has young players, some of them being reliable weapons. We need to just let him continue to
teach them before we say he can’t coach up his players. Most of our talented players are underclassmen. We need to let him be. We just held UGA to a 5 point game. We are Kentucky. We need to look at this as a positive going forward

I appreciate the effort by the players, but it is still a loss. Get destroyed on the road and lose close games at home. A coaching change has to happen or the fan base will not come back next year. 6-7, 5-7, 1-7 (Already) This is a very negative trend. Joker will always be one of us, but not as our coach. No hard feelings, it is just business,

Refs cost us this along with the bone head play that #12 pointed out – so that ones on Joker. The 2 BAD spots for first downs and the running into the kicker call, were the Refs. Those 4 things kept us from winning this one. They were ripe for the picking. Absolutly a great Effort by the team, proud of them and the fight they showed. They haven’t quit.

I also don’t understand running an option that takes you out of field goal range or trying an onside kick with 4:00 left that Georgia could have very easily scored and ended the game with. Or not making it clear to the qb NOT to throw to the middle of the field with no timeouts and a short clock at the end of the game.

    23) Joker has had PLENTY OF TIME to affect this program. He was the OC before becoming HC and can’t develop a consistent offense from week to week. The injuries hurt but the QB situation has been the same since SC, Whitlow is what we have. I guarantee that James Franklin, Dan Mullen, or he’ll even Derek Fooley could have pulled out more than one win with this UK squad. People like you 23 and all the other uk apologists are the reason joker prolly wound get fired and the reason we won’t see a bowl till he is. Vandy and Miss State have brighter futures right this second than we do and we used to say at least we rank above them. Now. I am going for a more subtle game changer – a 3rd and 3 when whitlow had an easy pass for the first down but misfired. That could have been a game changing drive. But I ain’t laying blame on whitlow – he played a good game. Joker had a decent game plan for a change, but it wasn’t enough.

#6 You do realize this was a loss don’t you. I guess you think some will look back and say this year was a success because we played UGA close in a trap game. This season has been a total bust, man we Realy showed some promise in our loss to WKU. Man we Realy gave UL starters a work out in the 2 1/2 quarters they played their starters. No way Joker has earned anther year, no way. If you think we will beat Vandy, Miss.State,or Missou I’d like a little of what your smoking. let’s call this what it is. A trap game that UGA was flat for and a Kentucky team that couldn’t even get UGA respect going in. oh yea I guess you missed Murry had a career game throwing for over 400 YDS. 26} think how you want to. then i say their defense did little to no preperation for us. their kids were not focused on us. throwing all over the field against us is not because of preperation, kind of like backyard ball, they threw like that cause they can with ease. it was just like the usc game where we were in the game with them, we really had no chance as both teams would beat us by 40 next week if we played them

    39) hey, joker wasn’t an up and coming coach. I hated the fact they made him head coach in waiting. James Franklin, Dan Mullen, Charlie Strong. All of which had zero HC experience. Vandy is in a position to be bowl eligible and the other two have UNDEFEATED team. If you can win at THOSE programs you can win at UK. Hire kirby smart he will have that D in the top 5 of the SEC(not just the east), and he knows some good recruiters and offensive minded coaches. Mark my word a uk lead by smart would be 4-4 in the SEC and 8-4 overall next year.

Realy haven’t watched them very much this year because they Realy haven’t been competitive. Realy not to confident they will beat Stamford at this point. This year has been pathetic. If joker returns which he won’t . The only people in the stands next year will be either the ones coming for the tailgating or people taking their kids to a game because tickets are cheap and readly available. It’s amazing how far this program has fail since Brooks left. We have some saying the coach should get a extension because we played a close loss. A loss is a loss no matter by how many.

Stop saying it’s because we’re young.

WHY are we young? WHY do we have no junior or senior class? Who ran them off, recruited people who got arrested/left the team/failed out? We didn’t have a plane crash or some plague that caused our upperclassman to die off. The head coach is responsible for the players he recruits, and in Joker’s case, he recruited these guys even BEFORE he was named HC.

If will stop your whining, let Joker execute his plan..we will have a decent program within a couple years. Our players read the crap you write as well as potental recruits. I’ve been a fan of UK football since I can remember and would love to be 8-4 or 9-3 on a regular basis but it is what it is! I saw a lot things in the secondary that disturbs me! We shouldn’t play a man-to-man with freshman at corner’s against the talent other team’s have at birth QB and WR! If we had experience at corner okay! Last night we saw a QB wait for a man to just come open! Without a line that can get to the QB okay but not with what we have on D! In order to win you must go D first in the SEC! Kirby Smart or another DC as HC is what we need, Sorry Joker must go!
