Shows rumored for Saturday

There are rumblings around the SEC that Doug Shows is tentatively scheduled to work Saturday’s Arkansas-Kentucky game. ย The game just got a little more difficult for the Wildcats, if true.

Cal should start Sam Malone, and encourage him (tom crean style) to ‘accidentally’ fall into doug show’s knee. Just say’n.

Seems to me that every division I head coach should have an “opt-out” card to prevent a given ref from working a game. Maybe give them up to 5 games per year total that they could use this. It would work a little bit like tossing out biased jurors in a trial. That way, if a ref has an obvious bias against a particular team, or just plain sucks, then the coach could prevent him from working a critical game.

Of course, if this was implemented, Shows would probably never work again.

Complaining about the refs is for losers

All the refs have their faults but they are all graded by their supervisor

You have to play through it

    Stop whining

In this case complaining about the refs is just fun. Perhaps Jump balls could be decided by a flex off

You like being a tattletale, but you can’t quite bring yourself to be a cop and beat down the blacks, homeless, and drunks. You like sports…why not be a biased ref rather than a biased cop? Hell, might even be able to directly affect the Vegas line and make some cash on the side while settling your personal grudges.
    Score!

    8. High-school coaches are allowed to black-ball refs. I think it used to be up to two or so. I don’t see why college coaches shouldn’t be able to do that either.

  19. serdi
    10:22 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

Years ago the SEC did have a blackball vote on one official. Joe Hall used that blackball on Reggie Copeland from Mobile, AL. Too bad they stopped that.

Cal could use it as ammunition with the team…it is us against the world. No body is giving you any credit…they don’t want you in the tournament…they have assigned Shows to ref to make sure you don’t win….

Shows reminds me of MPs in military, little pieces of sh that can push people around because of their job. Watch him closely, he can’t earn respect, so he forces himself on others.

I don’t think he has a problem with UK or Cal, he has the same attitude against everyone.

#20 I have been an mp for 7 years. Been on 3 deployments and am gearing up for another. Only people we push around are the sh%$bags who dont deserve to wear the uniform in the first place. Dealing with military we have to be more stearn and strict than a civilian officer would. But tell you what. Ill let you take my place on the next deployment….id rather stay home with my wife and baby anyway.

Many years ago I officiated with Shows in the Peach Belt Conference when he was working his way up. He was always know as a butt kisser and would do anything to move up…He used to keep his game shoes in a Arkansas shoe bag….He always talked about hating Kentucky growing up. I guess the SEC and Gerald Beaudreax have no ethics at all.. Its all about the money..Unbelievable …

Refs hate UK in general. But Tony Greene & Doug Shows take anti-UK bias to a whole new level.

  41. RealCatsFan
    1:06 pm February 28, 2013 Permalink

Well, I truly think that there are some select officials who have biases against certain teams, whether it is intentional or just something in the back of their minds, and Shows falls into that category. But #37, thinking that the SEC is conspiring to keep UK out of the tournament is a whole new level of conspiracy theory. If you are serious (doubt it), why would they try to keep their flagship program out of the NCAA tourney?

23), Right On. His daddy (Bobby Shows) played for Mississippi State back in the RUPP days. Bobby Shows speaks openly how much he hates all things KY and Rupp himself. So with doug growing up in that household… Agreed with all comments about SEC needing to dig a little deeper in its referee assignments.

A few years back Shows was reportedly suspended from calling ACC games as I recall…supposedly making a comment to a coach about “I’ll remember YOU next time” or something to that effect. Anyone remember that?

#14 They don’t have a supervisor. They bounce from conference to conference and the league reps don’t care. It’s people like you and you apathy towards their quality of work is one reason they aren’t held accountable and they are allowed to do a crappy job night in and night out and continue to keep their jobs.

  46. Logan

    14. Stop it with that crap. Refs blow calls on both ends every game. What Shows does is drop the hammer to damn quick and it is completely obvious he is not a Cal fan. Cal is not one of his either but Cal can’t T Shows up like he can be. I still say that Kentucky should have beaten Alabama if it was not for crap zebras. 3 blown calls that were HUGE in that game. 2 where the ball went off Bama players OOB and Kyle being mauled in the corner. All huge plays in that game that directly changed the outcome of the game.
