Short and Insufficient Profile: Martavius Neloms

During the slow and insipid summer of 2008, former KSR wordsmith Evan Hilbert profiled each and every member of the University of Kentucky football team. Though his knowledge was sparse and his research was far from thorough, Evan’s short and insufficient player profiles were an integral part of Kentucky’s success that season. UK finished with seven wins, including the opener at Louisville and a 25-19 victory in the Liberty Bowl. Kentucky hasn’t won a bowl game since. Let’s bring back that magic…

Items of Legitimate Interest

Neloms was moved to cornerback this offseason after projected starter Marcus Caffey failed to make the grade and will be ineligible all season. Neloms played cornerback his first two seasons at UK before moving to safety in 2011.

He started the first 10 games of 2011 before missing the last two because of injury. He ranked third on the team in tackles with 71, featuring a career-high 10 vs. Central Michigan and LSU.

Neloms is terrible at corner. Who the hell is comparing him to Revis? Or is that supposed to be ironic in a mean sort of way?

Martavius was in my ultimate frisbee class. He catches frisbees better than he catches footballs…He caught 2 passes the entire semester. Don’t look for him to lead the team in interceptions.

Did you know, about Martavious Neloms…he once gave up 3 touchdowns in a game to South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffrey thereby making him an overrated wide receiver star. Awesome!

So any college football player now gets compared to an NFL player? I played college basketball but they didn’t compare me to Steve Nash
