See I leave town and everything falls apart. Alan Cutler (who is quickly becoming a legend in the “report news that may or may not be true category) reported on his radio show that Shagari Alleyne had been kicked off the Kentucky basketball team for grade related issues, causing an uproar amongst the masses. Turns out that the information was not true….or at least a bit premature at this juncture. Shagari is academically ineligible at this stage, but could conceivably fix it over the summer and fall. Whether he will is another story.
Even though I love to tell somewhat off beat stories about the players and give some behind the scenes scoop on here, I am uncomfortable talking about the players and their grades. Having said that, grades have been an issue with Shagari since he stepped on campus and he has shown no inclination to ever improve in this area. For Tubby, grades are a priority and Shagari has left him frustrated for four straight years and this cannot help his (already) difficult standing with Smith.
There are lots of Shagari stories to be told…..some REALLY funny, but that is best left for the day that he finally leaves Lexington. I love the guy and the comedy of the Alleyne years is virtually unmatched. But it is certainly the case that he has caused problems and frustration while in Lexington that ultimately, actually outmatch his absurd height.
