Shabazz Muhammad takes over Rivals 150 top spot

Rivals updated their list of the 150 best players for the class of 2012 on Friday and Kentucky target Shabazz Muhammad has jumped to the top spot. Rivals.com’s national basketball analyst Jerry Meyer says of Muhammad:

Shabazz Muhammad has certainly passed through the gauntlet of scrutiny. Over time he has answered all the questions about his game and continues to improve. There might be some prospects that could end up better than Muhammad, but the odds don’t seem to be in favor of that happening. The smart move at this point is to make Muhammad the top prospect in the Rivals150

We don’t yet have a commitment from the class of 2012, but you have to think now that Muhammad has achieved the number one ranking, Coach Cal will finally give him some attention. Just kidding. Seriously, this guy will probably come to UK and then be a major NBA star. You know, the usual.

If he’s such a lock to UCLA, why isn’t he committed yet?

Maybe he is UCLA bound, but right now the idea that he’s a UCLA “lock” just seems like a lot of wishful thinking from the fanbase of a power program that’s fallen on very hard times, and desperately needs someone like Muhammad to rejuvenate it.

And hell, if he does go to UCLA, UK gets Ledo or Goodwin (and could possibly get one of them even if Muhammad comes). If Muhammad goes to UK, who does UCLA get? UCLA could win this battle, but UK wins the war. Emphatically.

Come to Kentucky and play in front of 24,000 a night (then play in the Final Four)

Is Sam Gilbert recruiting for UCLA again? If not, why would you want to play in front of 7,000 people when you can play in front of 24,000? Not to mention the most recent records (UK – Elite 8, Final 4; UCLA – losing record, 2nd round). And most everyone in the country is asleep by the time UCLA plays.
