Josh Selby was scheduled to take an official visit to UConn this weekend but those plans didn’t quite work out. Even though weather was already going to be a barrier to their travel plans, car trouble ended up nixing this trip. UK fans and their staff are hoping that the same thing doesn’t happen this weekend, when Selby is scheduled to be in Lexington for the Cat’s game with Florida.
I caught up with Maeshon Witherspoon, Selby’s mother, this weekend and asked her about the missed Connecticut trip and whether they would reschedule. “With us already visiting UConn, if we can’t [make a return trip] it’s not necessary. We already saw the campus and now that Coach Calhoun is back, it’s ok.”
It seems that the trip was going to be above and beyond what they would need in order to make an informed decision and they don’t seem too worried about having to miss UConn’s loss to Louisville this weekend. Kentucky is next on the list, but that trip could come into conflict with Selby’s high school playoff schedule. Right now, he has scheduled games on Tuesday and Thursday and, if his team wins out, he may have other team obligations this weekend that could keep him from traveling to Lexington.
Travel plans are the last thing on the mind of the super-competitive Selby. “Right now Josh is focused on the States,” his mother told me.
That competitive drive has lead Josh on an offensive tear recently and the above video is proof of that. In the Baltimore City Championship, Josh scored 45 of his team’s 56 points in a losing effort against Edmonson. He’ll bring that same effort during the rest of the playoffs and hopefully reach a better result.
