The above video features top point guard recruit and UK target Josh Selby in a recent scrimmage game. It’s not the longest video in the world but it provides a good “Cliff’s Notes” version of the different ways a kid like Selby can help his team. Knocking down three’s, getting out in transition, making good decisions with the ball while out in transition and, most importantly, finishing off highlight reel dunks and getting UK on Sportscenter’s top 10. He’s a scorer, a leader and a winner that could really help fill some of the Cats 2010 vacancies.
But, uh ohhhh, Bill Self made Selby his sweetheart this Valentine’s Day and the Jayhawks really seemed to impress. Selby’s mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, told KU site The Shiver.com, “Great atmosphere. It’s the best atmosphere we’ve been to so far.” She also added, “The fans were crazy. Not a bad crazy though. There was a lot of hype leading up to the visit, so Josh was really looking forward to it.”
Selby’s list now sits at four schools, according to Witherspoon: Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky and Connecticut. Kansas and Arizona have already been visited and trips to Connecticut (2/28) and Kentucky are planned. Narrowing the list means that Syracuse has been eliminated and, I know some of you will like this, the rumors of Indiana not being too impressive were probably true. They’ve been eliminated as well.
Make sure you read the rest of the story about Josh’s trip and what Kansas did to impress Selby and his mother. Looks like round one goes to the Jayhawks. Round two will come when Josh and his mother take their long awaited visit to Lexington on March 7th for the Florida game, so be ready.
