SEC Power Rankings: Week 5

Each week over on KSRCollege I’ve produced my own power rankings of how each team stacks up based on their performance from the weekend’s games. With another weekend of college football in the books it is time to once again determine the order of the teams that are affiliated with the Southeast. Here’s week 5:
1. Alabama: 5-0     Last Week #1

Another week another big victory for the tide. Alabama took on Ole Miss this week and trailed for the first time this season when the Rebs took a 7-6 lead. That lead last for only seconds as Bama ran the kickoff back to regain the lead. This week they again topped the AP poll after getting all 60 first place votes. Next the Tide have a week off before going to Mizzou.

2. Georgia: 5-0   Last Week #2

I struggled with leaving the Dawgs at number two. On the one hand they took care of Tennessee at home while scoring 51 points. On the other they gave up 44 and didn’t have the game won until the final seconds of the game when Tyler Bray threw an interception. Lucky for the folks in Athens the other teams weren’t more impressive.

3. South Carolina: 4-0 Last Week #3

In the first half against our Cats the Cocks looked like a far cry from the #6 team in the nation. But what a difference a half makes. The second half specifically where USC put up 31 points while shutting off the UK offense that had driven pretty well early in the game. Next up is the game that will probably determine the east champ as they host Georgia.

4. LSU: 5-0     Last Week #4

LSU continues to slide down the AP poll after another uninspiring performance. This week it was against Towson who LSU beat 38-22. Still one of the nation’s best teams shouldn’t trail Towson at any point and they really shouldn’t be giving up 22 points. Next up LSU has their first real test of the season as they face #10 Florida.

5. Florida: 4-0 Last Week #5

The Gators slid into the top 10 to give the conference 5 of the 10. Florida moved up despite having a bye this week. The Gators needed the rest as they host #4 LSU.

6. Mississippi St: 4-0 Last Week #6

The Bulldogs also had a bye this week which allowed them to stay put in the power rankings. Next week they come to Lexington to take on the Cats. As I wrote below I think Miss. St is a bit overrated this year as their undefeated record features no good teams. We will find out what they are made of Saturday at noon.

7. Texas A&M: 4-1 Last Week #7

A&M officially became a member of the SEC this week as they took down Arkansas to the tune of 58-10 and earned their first conference win. Welcome to the big leagues Aggies. Next up the team will take on Ol Miss in a game that will go a long way in determining the second worst team in the SEC west.

8. Ole Miss: 3-2 Last Week: #9

Ole Miss get to move up my rankings as they had a respectable showing against the best team in the country. The rebels even had the lead for a few precious seconds. Something no other team can say so far this year. The Rebels have been pretty good against bad teams and gotten beat down by the good ones. We will know if the team is legit next week as they take on Texas A&M.

9. Missouri: 3-2 Last Week: #10

The Tigers managed to beat UCF 21-16 despite being down at the half. Next week they get to try again to notch their first SEC win and they have a pretty good chance considering they are playing against Vandy.

10.Tennessee: 3-2 Last Week #8

The Vols fought the good fight against Georgia but their defense just couldn’t get a stop and they got beat 51-44. Things are going to get worse for UT before they get better as they face Miss St, Alabama, and South Carolina over the next three weeks. If they go 0-3 Dooley’s seat is going to be getting mighty hot.

11. Auburn: 1-3 Last Week #11

Auburn had a bye this week before getting their chance to become the next team to beat up on poor Arkansas. That game starts off a 5 game series that features no ranked opponents. Maybe Chizik’s seat will cool off a bit. Lose some of those and it will become unbearable.

12. Vandy: 1-3 Last Week #12

What was this every team take their bye week? Vandy was the fourth SEC team to take the week off. They could definitely use the extra practice as they are a disappointing 1-3 and James Franklin’s rise has slowed considerably. If they can take down Mizzou at home then perhaps a bowl game isn’t yet out of the question for the Dores.

13. Kentucky: 1-3 Last Week # 14

When Max Smith went down with an injury I figured we would be seeing a repeat of last week’s offensive struggles against Florida. But the Whit-show got underway and we didn’t look too bad during the first half. Once adjustments got made the team struggled but at least we looked pretty good for 30 minutes. Hopefully we can make it an hour next week against Miss St.

14. Arkansas: 1-3 Last Week #13

Arkansas got killed by A&M. How long until Charlie Strong is named the new head coach?

I think LSU’s slide is partly because the media does not want to see another all-SEC BCS title game.

When is Louisville going to actually play someone?!? They’re supposed to be so good but when you’ve played teams with a combined win total of 3 the entire year it makes that argument go out the window

Has joker been fired yet? If not, I could care less about any UK football / SEC football talk. None of it matters till the administration gets serious about UK football and fires that bum. We will always be in the bottom 2 or 3 in rankings and recruiting classes in the SEC as long as joker is here.

Oh yes baby. We lead Arkansas in reading scores, obesity, % on welfare and in football.

WKU is the best team in the state. Don’t get me wrong. They suck, but UL and UK are pitiful. UL in the top 25 is comical.

Come on guys. Did you just look at scores or did you actually watch any games? did you tead any game recaps at saturday dowb sourh or mr sec? There’s no way in hell ole miss is as high as you have them especially considering where you have Tennessee lower and compared to ole miss UT was actually in a position to tie and win the game.

One can debate the order of Arkansas and Kentucky at13 or 14 but you really didn’t even engage in that discussion. This was likely just an attempt to make you feel better that uk was ahead of someone (in your own mind at least) rather than a legitimate true ranking. Both defensive units suck ass but Arkansas offensive production behind Tyler Wilson is much more reliable.
