SEC Player of the Year Rundown

award

With just one week remaining in SEC play, it’s time to turn our attention to conference awards.  UK has not had the SEC Player of the Year since Keith Bogans in 2003, but if you listen to Billy Donovan, he believes the Cats have the top 3 candidates.  “My first thought goes with Kentucky.  Wall, Cousins, Patterson.”  You think he doesn’t kick himself for staying in Gainesville?

Of course, the odds-on favorite for the award is John Wall who, ironically enough, has not won an SEC Player of the Week award all season (Cousins and Patterson have both won one). But what he doesn’t have in overall Player of the Week awards, he’s made up for in Freshman of the Week, winning that award 4 of the 16 weeks (Cousins 4 times, Bledsoe 2).

Of course, there are still basketball games to be played, but if the award was handed out today, here’s how one blogger’s ballot would go
1. John Wall, UK
2. Demarcus Cousins, UK
3. Devan Downey, USC
4. Jarvis Varnado, MSU
5. Trey Tompkins, UGa

What say you?
