SEC Championships Morning Links!

Image from Greg Nelson of Sports Illustrated.

Good morning everybody.  While you’re recovering from eating five pizzas in five days, did you remember to set your clocks forward last night?  Yeah, it’s okay, I forgot too.  Anyways, that’s probably a good thing, we’ve got a big day ahead of us and you need your rest!  With the show down against the Gators and the Selection Sunday show later today, there’s plenty for the Kentucky fan to feast their sports heart out on.  But before we can get to any of that – morning links.

-Alan Cutler channels his inner BTI and takes a chance to criticize John Calipari and his use of the bench last night.  For what it’s worth, I am on Cal’s side.  Alabama was pressing too hard and starting to hit too many three’s for you to be comfortable sending the bench in.  Both injuries, in fact, were direct consequences of the players trying to fight through a press.  It’s unfortunate, but in my opinion, excusable.

-Speaking of injuries, Brett Dawson says what we’ve all been hearing.  If it was up to Lamb, he would play.  As of last night Cal thought it was questionable, but with these kinds of injuries rest can either hurt or help, so we won’t know until tip off.

-David Jones of Florida Today writes that the UF/UK match up today is a familiar one, and gives us an insight into how the Florida team feels about playing in Rupp Arena South.

-ESPN’s Mark Schlabach joins the Jorts Party and looks at the positive effect from Twitter-gate – and the punishment that stemmed from it.

We’ll be around all day with a liveblog from Atlanta and coverage of the Selection Show.  Happy March everybody!

I’m with you Will, hindsight being 20/20, wish we could’ve saved ourselves from injury, but this team is still learning to play 40 minutes. Pressing or not I say completing a game is important for this teams confidence. Lamb or no Lamb we finish the Gators today!

We need big games from Knight and Jones. Come on boys! This is why you come to Kentucky. For games like this one.

And I agree with Coach. If they aren’t pressing, I remove the guys. But he is. And, they cut the margin to 14 with our starters so … it was 26 at one point.

Question for the game will be….will Jones play team and mean??

    1) I totally agree with u. If Cal takes his starters out and say we only win by single digits, the same UK fans who are giving Cal a hard time about leaving our starters in would instead be complaining about how UK couldn’t finish a game off right!! It’s so frustrating listening to some UK fans who will complain about anything!! It gives the rest of us a bad name!

Today is another day, time to let the “he should have pulled them” go.

Liggins would play even if he had to walk on his hands and dribble with his feet. Doron at 1:00 it’s time to play ball.

well if cal would develop his players through out the year to where they could have the confidence to play and not lose a lead we wouldnt be having this discussion. how many of you think that pitino wouldnt be 10 deep with this same talent at this time of yr??? and yes, they would be playing neck and neck with the best teams in the land, just like the tards!!

right cal can’t develop players, except for josh……and miller. oh, yeah forgot about liggins.

10)We seem to be playing “neck and neck” with everyone we play!I think you’ve bought into the ESPN’s “Great Big East” a little too much. Climb out of Pitino’s ass!

Ever wonder why folks don’t take your opinion seriously on a message board?

    … Here’s your sign.

Disagree, Albama’s coach is a Donovan cohort, he was pressing to wear us down. The odds of Alabama winning when down by more than 15 with less than 2 minutes to go are nearly astronomical. Cal needs to swallow his pride and not try to prove a point when someone presses him at the end of a game… INEXCUSABLE! The crowd was chanting for Polson at the 2:30 mark, so his comment that the fans might have blamed him for subbing too early is redicilous.

How was Liggins injury related to fighting through a press? I thought he came down on a foot when landing for a rebound. Maybe that was one too many beers.
For the record: I was saying we should be subbing with under 3 minutes. The game was in hand at that point.

We had touble all year when we slow it down trying to protect a big lead.

10 are you serious?? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Or in little Ricky’s case about 15 seconds or so once every few years. No way this team is ten deep. And I loved Pitino WHEN he was at UK. But the man has lost something. And whatever it is he has now they can keep in Looserville.

I would have subbed a 6:27 up 26, you can always put em back in. They prob would have done better than the tired starters.

Now it’s time for Big Blue Nation to pull together and root on our team. I don’t always agree with Coach but I stand by him. There’s alot at stake but most importantly it’s florida. Let’s prove who has the legitimate SEC COY and POY & who is still the king of this conference! GO BIG BLUE!!!

So if Cal did sub, very easily could have been Knight, Jones, Miller, Jorts… still leaving the Lamb and Liggins on the floor. Is Cal suppose to Just put in Hood,Vargus, and Poole on the floor 3 against 5. You Dirty Bird Trolls really need to STFU.

#10 – Not sure why I have to keep reminding everyone, but just because you play a lot of players, doesn’t mean you have depth. It’s pretty simple. And are you referring to the one and done Big East? What have they had in the last 6 or 7 years…..50+ teams in the tournament and managed to accidentally squeeze 3 in the Final Four? And two of them were in the same year.

So, UK wins by 14 pts. and it seems to be running up the score? So much for the fans having a killer instinct. And with the bench players, the coaches work with them everyday in practice to develop them. It is more the fault of the players for not developing. This is not little league.

Ca Ca occurs, what happened yesterday is a moot point. Today if Lamb isn’t available “NEXT MAN UP”, and he’s going to have to play his way if he wants to stay in. If Lamb’s up to the challenge GREAT if not I’d rather have him in the NCAAs than to injure his ankle to where he won’t be able to go.
We’re a 2 point favorite in Vegas…..so they may know something we all don’t. Personally I think we have a great shot at beating the GAY-TORS by 7. GO CATS…..Whoop them Lizards!

2 SEC teams and 2 big east teams made it to the elite 8 last year. Question is how many big east teams entered the tourney v.s. SEC teams?
