SHOULDVE had his ass sent to the locker room. Y’all cracked me up, call pushed and clutched Teague, Lamb and had the huge incident with Terrence Jones. So get off of his back… He barely “escorted” his player to the bench and then his player tried to bow up on him. Y’all are making him out to be Bobby knight junior. What a bunch of pansies in the comment section. Clearly some of you have never played sports on the high school or collegiate level. God, America has grown soft. It’s no wonder the world is passing it by.
FYI, coaches do this all the time; you just don’t have the benefit of the camera in most situations to show you what a coach is really like. We don’t know what Woods was angry about, what the player had done, what had happened earlier in practice that day, etc. Context matters. Judging solely from this clip, it’s clear to me that Wood is passionate about winning and molding his kids into better basketball players. Get off his back and let him coach.

There is something that we didn’t see here. No coach loses their mind like that without being provoked by this kids mouth or poor attitude or poor effort or combination of all. Somewhere along the line, maybe Bobby Knight started it, that to act out of control and publicly humiliate your players was a way to prove you were earning your pay. What it really shows is that you are representing your student athletes and institution as a collective group of individuals with the inability to learn from civilized instruction. I’d beg to ask Sean Wood in court if he did in fact order a “Code Red”! All kidding aside this unacceptable behavior has migrated down into middle school games and is not in the best interest of sport or our society.

If you didn’t catch his mouth constantly moving, then you’re blind! Heck he was even talking sh*t to Goodwin during a free throw. And the words coming out of his mouth isn’t something you expect of a student athlete on national television. He has no business being on a college campus in the first place. Woods had a chance to shine in the spotlight that was provided to him. Unfortunately, in a very short time, he has shown that he has some issues that he needs to deal with. What has happened over the past couple days has shown me that he should consider himself lucky to be a coach at Morehead St.

This is what we give Bobby and Billy a hard time for.

Man, between the football coaching search and Sean Woods… the message board fans are really turning into some little loud mouth bitches.

This is SEAN WOODS! What the hell is wrong with you folks? And were his comments earlier this week really that far off base? I’m not sure about the telethon but these new players have no idea about the history and legacy of UK basketball. As a former player, he has earned the right to make such comments.

Am I alone? I’m just tired of these negative Nancies and all the wining and moaning. Grow a pair and support your team. If you can’t do that, head 90 miles west!

Cal gave Jones stuff (verbal not physical) cuz Jones could handle it! Atkinson couldn’t, which was obvious by the tears, but Woods continued to get in his face (it did get verbal, so that knocks out the weak player stuff) and berait (spelling?) him. Appeared to me that Woods was simply being a camera prostitute wanting all the attention on him. This makes sense coming off his earlier comments against his almamaeter (again spelling?). With that said, Woods has some major issues going on in his life that we are all unaware of. This is why he is in a downward spiral in regards to his recent media and player relations. Give him a second chance? HECK NO, he’s BK in my mind. You should never put your hands on a player. OH YOU THING I’M WRONG? Lets say you have a kid, should I put my hands on them when they aren’t paying attention in class? Easier said than done, leave it up to EazyEazyBreeze’y to get it done!

I have no problem with a coach screaming at a player. I have no problem if a small amount of contact is made between coach and player. However i draw a line at that much physical contact, especially when you look at the whole picture of what happened. Also, that level of yelling wasnt about coaching, it was about demeaning. When you put your nose on your players nose and just yell, that is not coaching. you can yell and scream from outside that players personal space. I dont care what the player did, there is zero need for nose to nose yelling. Same point can be made from 4 feet away.

The way I see it, if the kid did/said something that was deserving of all that, then he should be suspended for a game, at least. If Woods doesn’t do that, then we not only know he was way out of line, but also he was just showing how “tough” he was on the big stage.

57, let me guess, you want the coach to put Richie in? Frightening to think that Woods’ ‘Bobby Knight Style’ shove/face-off was justified in anyone’s mind. He was WAY out of line, just like a certain other Unforgettable who used your tax dollars to fund his personal parties. But, oh wait, he played for UK so he can use the rest of the world as his doormat? It’s Pollyanna, but I’d like to think that if you were ever a Wildcat, you would be a community pillar and role model, not a Bobby Knight wannabe or a thief.

BTW, if you think criticizing Woods isn’t ‘supporting the team’, you really should check the current roster. You know, the one he was insulted by because they didn’t know who he was?

When Woods turned around upset again after going back to the huddle, the white Assistant coach was visibly upset with whatever the kid said that made Woods turn around again. This kid apparently had a smart mouth on him.

“And that scene just CONTINUES on the Morehead State bench …” is why this incident is so unique – not because of the language or the shoving (which has been done by Cal and others, usually with brevity) but because of the DURATION of the behavior, by both player and coach. Finish it in the locker room.

    117) I agree. Woods should have said his piece and simply let the guy know they’ll finish the discussion in the locker room. One word……Transfer.
I had a high school coach who was old school and he was in your face and would not tolerate attitudes. He did it to me one time when I was being stupid. Kids these days don’t have the structure and discipline that is needed in this world. It starts at HOME!!!! Sean cares for these kids and is giving tough love, probably something that Bob Knight did not do. I think the only issue is shoving him to the bench, but I guarantee that there is not a single coach in the country that has not grabbed or shoved in frustration or anger. I am a better person thanks to my coach. He was hard but cares about to me to this day, if not, he wouldn’t still trust me to by my patient.

Well, to me it looked personal between Sean and his pg and maybe that’s why it was uncomfortable to watch liked more like an “outside the club” fight than a player-coach confrontation. I have been reprimanded by coaches but this felt different….at any rate… I am more disturbed by the comments about America being “soft these days”. Seriously? We have murdered more residents of other nations than anyone on the planet for the last sixty years, we have constantly been at conflict for decades now….I believe if you ask the women and children of Iraq or Afghanistan about our softness you would receive a different opinion. The punk kid wouldn’t shut his mouth. The coach was showing him who is in charge. “Today’s world,” as some of you refer to it, is a world populated by selfish little punks with a sense of entitlement. America has become a country populated, at least in part, by selfish little punks with a sense of entitlement. That kid needed an A-kicking and he got it. I loved it. I think a good slap to the face would have been appropriate. I have a message for you and I will put it in today’s low-rent vernacular–“Losers gonna lose.” Kids who talk back to coaches are losers. The only way to teach them to me winners, i.e., men, is to show them that their lack of respect will not be tolerated. I wish we had someone like Sean Woods as president. Someone who would explain a simple truth to all the sissy little losers in this country–you are not entitled to anything but to be born and to die. So, unless you are in charge, learn to do what you are told, how you are told, when you are told.

That player is a thug. If you can’t tell that by looking at him then you don’t have a clue. Look deep into his eyes. That right there is a young man that loves his weed. He probably rolled one up and smoked it when he got back to Morehead and he doesn’t even remember this happening. Well, he probably isn’t out of bed yet, but when he does get up he won’t remember it. Smoke another one! A bunch of you pansies were raised to be soft and you want everyone else to be soft too. That’s a coach right there. He cares about his team and that young man. I have had plenty of 19-23 year old young men that have worked for me. And at some point you have to show a small few who is in charge and that its in THEIR best interest to do things a certain way. As long as there is no Billy G going on behind the scenes then this is nothing. Sean Woods is an Unforgettable for you all that are too young and short sighted to remember that.

135, 136, AJ has pads on. Coming from someone who played both sports, I can tell you there’s a big difference.

I can see both sides of this argument – IF he really mouthed or said “f*** you” to Coach Woods then it’s a different story, but you GOTTA keep the in-your-face, rough, harsh, crazy coaching stuff behind closed doors. Woods big failure is that he didn’t keep his temper and bottle it for the locker room.

I think those who are pro-old school coaching are being reactionary here and overreaching in saying it was fine and he should’ve done more, whereas the people saying “if it was my child” – do you have kids? Do they plays sports or have they ever been coached? If yes, then this has happened. Period.

Getting yelled at is one thing. Getting verbally berated an inch from your face on national television is embarrassing for the kid, for the coach, and for morehead state. Want to show the kid who’s in charge? Send his disrespectful butt back to the locker room, and then suspend him a game or two. What Woods did was a testosterone fueled, no-class, pissing contest, best saved for the locker room. Dude’s got a way short fuse and rage issues.
