***Before he took the solemn vows of initiation at The Brown Tweed Society, Evan Hilbert and I enjoyed some good times at WildcatBlitz.com and here at Kentucky Sports Radio. I liked the way he laughed, his firm embrace and, mostly, his preview of the starting lineups of opposing basketball teams. So, just like the bat signal, I’ll be posting these each game, hoping that it brings Evan home. Actually, scratch that. This is the third year I’ve been doing this without so much as a telegram. Evan, you’re dead to me.
According to Wikipedia, Terriers are typically small, wiry, very active and fearless dogs that often require a “big hand” to keep them in check.
Yep, that about sums it up.
Let’s meet the reason why Cal has been rolling up that newspaper…
2010-11 stats: 7.1 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.7 rpg, 1.6 spg, 37% from the field, 28% from three
Irving was the prize of the Boston University recruiting class when he chose to attend to become a Terrier after another famed battle between BU and Rider. He’s a speedy point guard who does well directing his team considering his age, but has not found consistency with his jumper so far this season. Despite hailing from Will Smith’s alma mater (Archbishop Carroll in Philly), this photo makes me think he’s more of a Tyler Perry guy.
2010-11 stats: 10.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 35% from field, 32% from three
In his first season at BU after playing two years at LaSalle, Partin enters Rupp Arena after his best colleg performance. Against Cornell and their amazing set of Rubix cube solvers, the junior guard scored 32 points on 10-14 shooting, which included making 5 of his 6 shots from three-point range. Despite this uncanny knack for pouring in points, I do not think he is related to 1999 KHSAA Sweet Sixteen MVP Will Partin. However, I have not confirmed yet through my sources.
2010-11 stats: 17.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.1 apg, 36% from field, 35% from three
A former prep star under Dan Hurley at St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey, Holland has placed his name all over the record books at Boston University in three years as a Terrier. Holland has been tabbed to the all-conference first team twice and tallied the school’s most points in a season a year ago as he became the first BU player to lead the America East in scoring. This season, thanks in part to a string of terrible shooting nights (2-11, 4-16, 2-12) he’s shooting only 36% from the field, a career low. Also, after starting the year by knocking down 8 of his first 14 threes, Holland has connected on only 8 of his last 34.
You don’t care. You just want to ask me what time or channel the game is on. Here you go.
2010-11 stats: 5.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.9 bpg, 50% from the field
It’s hard to say what it is that he sees in BU, wonder if he’ll always bleed BU, stats can’t show it, so he’ll have to, he left Marquette after year twooooooo.
Sorry, I could have sworn that band was called “Patrick Hazel”.
2010-11 stats: 9.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.0 bpg,1.0 spg 42% from the field, 38% from three
O’Brien’s success story is one made for the big screen as he’s found success for the Terriers in two seasons, including America East Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Third Team All-Conference as a sophomore. All of this comes after O’Brien was only extended a scholarship offer to satisfy the little-kmown Massachusetts state law that an O’Something must be in the lineup. Joins with Hazel as one of the most wicked pisser offensive-rebounding frontcourts in the America East.
Chambers is in his second season as a head coach after serving as Jay Wright’s assistant at Villanova for five seasons. In his first season, he took the fourth-seeded Terriers to the cusp of the NCAA Tournament, losing to Vermont in the conference tournament title game. After knocking off Oregon State and Morehead State, the Terriers were eliminated by Virginia Commonwealth in the semifinals. Chambers, who also coached BU to a win over Indiana in his first year, is also made of ceramic.
– Matt Griffin (G): Junior guard is first guy off the bench and scored 21 points against Marist on 7-7 (5-5) shooting earlier this season. Has averaged 3.6 points on 25% shooting in the three games since. Plays 23 minutes off the bench.
– Dom Morris (F): Blah, blah, blah. Whatever.
– Jeff Pelage (C): 6’8″ center hasn’t played yet this year due to ankle sprain. High school teammate of Brandon Knight. Probably doesn’t know s–t about Shakespeare.
