Say Hey—Sheray???

In my post game comments, I made an assumption that has turned out to be incorrect. I figured that something had to be off on the last play during the LSU game, in large part because I could not fathom that the play was drawn up for Sheray Thomas. Well it turns out I was incorrect. After the game, Tubby Smith confirmed my worst thoughts, when he stated that the last play was designed to get Sheray the ball on the block. The stated reason for this was that the play worked last year with Chuck Hayes and the lack of double team in the block would make for a scoring opportunity.

One problem with that logic….Sheray is no Chuck Hayes. I really dont see how you can go away from your hot shooter and senior, Patrick Sparks, or your leading scorer Randolph Morris. I tend to not question Tubby, but this one seems to be a miss. If I were coaching, I am not even sure I would have had Thomas in the game. I would have had Rondo, Sparks, Moss, and Crawford, all at the three point line….Morris on the block…he gets the ball, if double team comes, kick it out….if not, live or die by a Morris shot. Thomas shouldnt have been in the equation.

But either way, the Cats did play relatively well in playing close against a legitimately good team on the road. Now they need one this week…
