Because the parts without Jillian Michaels are kind of funny.
With two lock outs and two sports that haven’t started practicing yet, it’s been a slow Saturday. Still, the evaluation period is on and we’re getting to know some of the 2012 recruits like we had not before, Calipari is out and about, and basketball lives – in other parts of the world. Here’s a few quick hitters for your Saturday night, before we all go out and celebrate like it’s 1990 – and Derrike Cope won a race.
— Overall it has been a pretty positive start to the evaluation period. We heard that both Ricky Ledo and Shabazz Muhammad are intent on coming to visit Kentucky, and at this point that’s the only school they know they’re going to. We have also seen Calipari show a renewed interest in power forward Perry Ellis, watching him a number of times in Indianapolis over the past few days. There are even those that say he went back this morning to check him out another time, making it five looks in three days. Cal either really likes Perry Ellis, or can’t quite be sure what to make of him. Either way, it’s clear the interest is there.
— Meanwhile, Rick Pitino took the day off from recruiting. To be fair though, he just doesn’t have the stamina he used to.
— The biggest news from the day came from Florida, when a paper revealed that Kentucky, Miami and Ohio State would be wearing LeBron James branded Nike jerseys this year. Like James himself, this news was met with mixed feelings from the BBN. I can understand the hesitation from some of you, but as far as business goes, it’s a great move. Just look at any recruits twitter timeline from a few months ago and tell me if they were Team Dirk or Team LeBron. Like him or not, James is a superstar and associating with a superstar pays dividends in recruiting and for the UK brand. It is what it is, and it is good for Kentucky.
— So you want basketball? Ramon Harris will give you basketball. The Razor continues to tear up China, and until Yao Ming get reinserted into the Chinese league, the monie mone train ain’t stopping. Ramon had 26 points in a losing effort, continuing to prove that China is no match for Alaska. Harris now averages just under 22 points a game, and Matt still asks for anyone to send him some game tape.
— While Derek Jeter connected on a home run with his 3,000th hit today, Anthony Davis tweeted about going to McDonalds for the 30th time since he made it to campus. And we wonder how he put on that weight.
Chris Thomas will be around to cover the news tomorrow, make sure you guys are nice to him. He’s a pretty big recruit, after all.
