Saturday Morning Winks

You might think I’m obsessed with this GIF. You might be right.

Good morning, BBN. You’re looking well-rested. Hopefully your Friday night was cooler than mine- which shouldn’t be hard to beat, seeing as how I babysat and spent approximately an hour of my night reading a book about sushi to a three year old. Kids in the city, man. They’re sophisticated. To the links.

-The Herald-Leader has you covered for Kentucky/Georgia pregame notes and keys to the game. Spoiler alert- it could get uglier than Maryland’s basketball uniforms against UK.

-We’ve heard about Willie Cauley-Stein’s high school football career, but could Cauley-Stein have played football at a Division One school? Mark Story investigates. caught up with former offensive lineman Zipp Duncan to hear his opinions on the state of the football program, what it takes for coaches and teams to succeed in the SEC,  and, of course, Joker Phillips’ job security.

-Elsewhere in the SEC, ESPN has a handy guide for what to watch for in the SEC games today. The race for the SEC East is still up in the air, and today’s games will have a huge impact on who will finish the season atop the standings.

-A recruiting source has told Evan Williams that Texas and Florida are in the lead for 2013 power forward Julius RandleDon’t panic, though- there’s still plenty of time for Calipari to work his magic.

-While Calipari takes a well deserved rest this weekend, it’s a big recruiting weekend for college basketball elsewhere. Via ZagsBlog, here’s a look at where in the world are the nation’s top recruits (*to the Carmen San Diego tune*).

-And to end on a feel-good story, a local high schooler began the football season as Dunbar’s mascot. Now, he’s their starting quarterback. This is the stuff Disney movies are made of.

If Willie Cauley-Stein wasn’t good enough to play football at a Division One caliber school, maybe he could still play at UK?

If Randle wants to play for a national championship he will come to UK. If he wants the team to be about him, he will go some where else.

@4 Florida with Randle will be just as good as UK if not better. Sad but true.

I can’t believe no one has talked about the best article here, the kid who went from Mascot to winning QB….pretty darn amazing story.

@7 Florida if they get Randall will have the 1, 7, 8 best player in the nation and according to the bleacher report they will be adding a couple of 5 star transfers. Plus they are going to have some talented players stay.

Coach cal has said he would never hold a kid back from achieving his dream, so after we win #9 let Cauley-stein move to the football team next year then when he is eligible for the nfl and nba draft he can see where he ranks in both.

I interviewed Zipp on Monday (10-15-12) and even sent a link to Matt and others on twitter. I also shared the link in comments section Tuesday evening and nothing comes from it, but they will link this guys article lol. Its all good though, not the first time they have done me that way.

The mascot to qb story is interesting. In the name of full disclosure, Scott Co beat Dunbar 68-6 lat night.

@17 I never said Kentucky would not get Randall but if they don’t and Florida does, well there going to be #1 or 1a come 2013.

Give Zack a break… there’s no denying Florida would compete with us if they land three top 10 players.

Still don’t know why top recruits would consider UF. However, Coach Cal says UK is not everybody. Some kids can’t handle the big time.

We won’t get Randle, but neither will Florida. He’s Texas bound. Good news, we don’t need him (would love to have him, but we don’t need him) Better news, Florida doesn’t get him either.

Andrew Wiggins was able to guard Julius Randle when they played against each other… So even if he goes to Florida, as long as WCS or Lee can at least be able to slow him down… our superior talent at the 1, 2, 3 spots should allow us to win.

We may not get Randle. UK will march on regardless. I think UK is doing OK in recruiting though. Cal knows what he is doing.

Randle seemed more like a guy that wants his shots the few times I saw him play, he was selfish. I think, just like Shabazz, Randle will go where he is the man so UT makes sense.

In saying that I agree with others that we don’t need him, especially if Wiggins moves to 2013 and comes here. Gordon or someone else will come to UK and we will be fine.

Randle is at Texas again today. They are the home team and the one to beat for his services. Donovan has a really good relationship with Randle and his mom but Texas is a lot closer to home.
