This morning’s set of links are brought to you by some Friday Night Lights. Last night kicked off the Kentucky High School football season all over the state and the road to L.T. Smith Stadium is officially underway. With football season started what better time than now to get started on some Saturday morning links.
–The Kansas City Star has an outside look at Wildcats basketball and the culture Missouri will be entering this year as they join the SEC. While most schools are focused on the new teams playing football, football takes a backseat to basketball in the bluegrass. A nice little read with quotes from Joe B. and our own Matt Jones.
-As Cal announced on the radio show yesterday UK will be having an Alumni game on September 15th at 2 p.m. I like how Cal added yesterday “Please do not call Rupp Arena yet because we don’t have all the particulars and all the stuff done,” I’d say the Rupp Arena ticket office phone has already been ringing off the hook.
-Larry Vaught thinks that the Alumni game will draw attention away from the football team. I think the basketball game will help the football later that night as people will want to do both games. A full Saturday like when Keeneland is meeting only helps attendance in my opinion.
-Speaking of the football team the season is only 15 days away and Kyle Tucker has a breakdown of yesterday’s practice. Still no word on what is up with Josh Clemon’s knee. Hopefully they can get the swelling issue resolved within the next two weeks.
-Jen Smith has a profile of the UK secondary and Martavius Neloms return to the position after playing safety. Neloms said he didn’t like the switch back at first but has since accepted his role and will try to be the best cornerback he can be. Hopefully Neloms will have a great year.
-Today’s football practice will feature the second scrimmage of the year. Coach Phillips said he hopes to see several improvements from the last scrimmage including the teams getting into the endzone with more regularity.
– Fall sports at UK officially got underway last night with UK women’s soccer taking down Coastal Carolina 2-0. Congrats to Coach Lipsitz and the soccer team for starting the season off with a W.
