University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Saturday Morning Links

It’s Saturday morning.  You’re sitting at Cracker Barrel with your grandparents.  Flipping through the menu, you finally find the breakfast dish of your choice.  The seat squeaks as you lean forward and spout off a couple slurred words to the waitress because it’s too early and the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.  She digests your requests, then asks you that inevitable question: “Sausage patties or links?”  You hesitate – both are delicious in their own manner and you’d hate to deprive your tongue of either flavor, but you may choose only one this morning.  Which do you prefer?  If it’s Saturday morning on KSR, you’re going LINKS.  Every.  Single.  Time.

– It’s gameday!  You’re excited to see the Cats play on the road against LSU at 4pm, so check out this breakdown of the matchup by CBS Sports.  The line currently sits at -9.5 in favor of UK.  The KSR family does not promote gambling, unless you’re really good at it.

Coach Cal and his canine letter have been picked up by the national press with this USA Today piece.  (This is only worth clicking to see the picture they used.)  Buzz…your girlfriend…WOOF.

– *TIPTON LINK* Marquis Teague and Calipari are ready for Anthony Hickey to come at Kentucky with his best shot.  Hickey’s lack of attention by the Kentucky schools could give him extra motivation to show up those who passed on him, and Cal recognizes that.  Just another reason why UK becomes ‘everyone’s Super Bowl’.  I like Teague’s attitude going into this game – “It’s no one-on-one battle.”  It’s a good idea to recognize the possibility of that being what it turns into for the point guards, and thus avoiding it all together and focusing on playing the team game on offense.

– Here’s another article on Hickey from a NOLA.com where he discusses he former desire to play for the Cats.  He had this to say: “I know I’m going to be a little hyper; I ain’t going to let it get too hyper.”  Hickey’s speed and energy are going to make him look like Squeaky Johnson from UAB back in the day.

– If you didn’t see the post below, Daniel Orton got his fast NBA action/points last night. It wasn’t in the best of circumstances, but it’s still an accomplishment.  Congrats, kid.

NCAA referees are being urged to enforce sportsmanship rules.  What exactly does that mean for the future?  Who knows, but it will be interesting to see what comes from it.  The example used in the article mentions Markel Brown’s technical fouls and ejection from what was possibly the dunk of the year.

– Hey, did you hear about that ship that ran into that bridge on Kentucky Lake Thursday night?  Crazy.

CB Sausage patties are the worst, but their bacon is good.

Please, don’t ever mention the name Squeaky Johnson again.

    Thank you,

I can’t wait for game time so I can finally shut up my LSU friends. I hope to see plenty of UK fans at Walk On’s before and after the game, and of course at the P-Mac for the game.

That kid barely did anything at all after that dunk. It’s so sad that players can’t show any emotions after spectacular plays. The old, white men making up these bogus rules probably have never dunked in their lives.

Fully expect Hickey to have a career day against us. In his head, he will feel vindicated for not being recruited to UK. UK will win by 10+ and Cal will be happy with how his 5*s sacrificed and everyone worked together to produce a road win. Hell, tipton will probably write on Sunday how Hickey is better than our players and how “Hickey is the missing link to UK winning the National Championship.” Again, Cal will be happy with what pieces he has and wouldn’t trade any of them!

Bob knight just said he wouldn’t take a ‘one and done’ player if he was drafting to the nba…

    Idiot!

Of course, Bilis disagreed with him.

Why would anyone even listen to Knight. The game passed him many moons ago when they still used the peach basket, Anything that older than dirt screwball says isn’t relevent by todays standards.

    6) I’ll be honest – I go patties always. But Saturday Morning Patties just sounds like the bad result of a late night at the bars and beer goggles.

Ha! Orton got a golatending within a minute of being on the court.

How many times will that happen? What a joke.

“Sportsmanship rules” sound so fine, but those refs are already out of control. Some of the refs think they are important or relevant. They are not. They are a necessary annoyance. Make the legitimate calls, and otherwise be as invisible as possible, refs.
The Technical they hit that kid with for the post dunk glare was wrong, and that ref should be fired. Any sensible person can see the clear difference between that little glare and some in-your-face taunting.

that “little glare” was the second technical after he had alredy received one for trash talking, it was very much warranted. he made a good play then tried to show the other dude up even more.Just because u made a good play does not give you the right to try to further humiliate the opposing player. and when you have been slapped with a technical for that same conduct earlier in the game you should have the presence of mind to quit trying to show your ass to the other team.

I didn’t see the first technical, but I’ll assume it was just as unwarranted as the second. I understand slapping someone with a T if things start getting truly out of hand, but #14 is right: refs are primarily there to manage a game, not take it over. Anyone who has ever played competitive sports knows that trash-talking and taunting is a part of it. You may think it’s not classy, or that it’s tasteless, but what’s a little mug after you just put your nuts on someone’s forehead? Look, if the kid made an obscene gesture, he certainly should be punished, but he simply stared at the other player for one second. Also, it’s ironic that the NCAA should care about sportsmanship, etc. when they treat these young athletes like modern-day slaves. These kids make millions of dollars for their school, and they aren’t adequately compensated for it.

I agree with Ryan. I am a middle age white man myself and I totally agree. The refs should be more concerned with getting calls right and not dictating momentum on teams home courts. You cannot tell me that this stuff doesn’t happen. Also, the refs should be fined when they show up the players or coaches by making over the top gestures when they make a charge call or technical. And don’t give me the stat that the number of fouls even out. That is due to second half make up calls at non- pivotal points in the game. Keep that in mind the next time you watch a game. How about this. Next time an assault takes place on the court, press charges. The answer is not calling a technical because someone looks at someone the wrong way. That’s a slippery slope.

Hickey’s whole mo HairDo would not work in Lexington. The only way it’d cut it is if he cut it. And, he couldn’t cut it. Which begs the question: Why do some players insist on masking their name tag with their sweaty wig?
