Saturday Look Ahead: The Next Five

Its that time once again. Time to gaze into the crystal ball and see what’s coming down the pipeline for the Cats on the hardwood. The Cats struggled over the last five going 3-2 and dropping out of the top 25. The next five though provide the Cats a chance to grow and climb back up the rankings. We’ve played 9 games over the past month but now things are going to slow down a bit. For a while it will be about one game per week until things pick back up with SEC play. Here’s a quick look ahead to the rest of December.

Lipscomb Bisons

Finals week means it’s going to be a long seven days of no basketball. Once that brutal stretch is over Rupp will play host to the Bison based out of Nashville. Lipscomb hasn’t been competitive in many games this year except one against Murray St. For example they were destroyed by more than 45 points when they played Ole Miss and their record is 3-4. The Cats should have no trouble after a week of Camp Cal.

Marshall Thundering Herd

Two weeks from today will feature another border war with the Marshall Thundering Herd. The Herd made headlines this week for their actions during the rivalry game with WVU. A Herd player was on the ground when he decided to pull an Ndamukong Suh and kick a mountaineer below the belt. The kick nearly incited a brawl and would leave five guys ejected from the game. So far the Herd sit at 5-4 but have dropped a couple of really close games. Matt described them as being sneaky good and they should provide a great measuring stick before the game at the Yum! Center.

@ #5 Louisville Cardinals

Well there is one game everybody circles when the schedule is released and that is with the Cards. The last time we met our hated rivals it was en route to a national championship in a game that eliminated the redbirds from the Final Four. It was amazing but now the Cards will enter the game as the higher ranked team with the only chance of beating UK for the foreseeable future. Louisville has looked strong at times and beatable at others. A few weeks of serious conditioning should have the Cats ready to play in the hostile arena, hopefully someone can have a breakthrough like Josh Harrellson and the Cats leave with a perfect record against UofL under Cal.

Eastern Michigan Eagles

To think that the final game of the non-conference is just four games away blows my mind. Seems like yesterday the Cats were tipping off against Maryland and now SEC play is just a month away. This season is flying by. The honor of final OOC game goes to the Eastern Michigan Eagles who are currently 5-2. That record is a bit deceiving as the Eagles haven’t played anyone of note except Syracuse. The Orange won that game 84-48. The Cats should be able to cruise in this one before they head into the SEC.

@ Vanderbilt Commodores

We owe Vandy one merciless beating and the factors to do so seem to be there. After beating us in the SEC championship to spoil our perfect season Vandy lost their senior core and are in rebuilding mode. The ‘Dores are 3-4 right now with no good wins and some bad losses. Kentucky should head into Memorial and have a total squash match. Although that odd gym could prove to be a challenge for a young team.  The Cats should be able to win big for their first SEC win of the year.

So what do you think? Will the Cats be perfect over the next month or will they continue to struggle?

Matt can you confirm that Brown has been hired?

That link to the Marshall WVU “brawl” might have been the biggest let down ever…

    Very disappointing amount of violence.

1 – he can’t because he doesn’t have any sources. Until someone reports it first for him to steal, we won’t hear anything.

    4) Didn’t Matt brake the Stoops hire?

A 4-1 record wouldn’t be bad and should be expected. The big question will be if Deng is ready by the UL game. Holding out hope that we will bring our A game and beat loserville one more time. That should get us back toward the lower end of the top 25. Three losses this early in the year makes it tough to put a team into the top 25.

6 – he did not. It was broken several hours before matt did. It was just broken by people that don’t have alot of followers. Matt is just more popular so that is the only reason. Guy I follow was right about the DC being hired and always has it right on recruits.

#8, so I guess you know whether or not Brown has agreed to take the UK OC job.

9 – I don’t know anything. I have no insiders to personally talk to. I just follow this guy. He says Stopps wants Brown, but Brown might end up with a head coaching job elsewhere.

We could play a middle school team in Memorial Gym and not be guaranteed a win this year. Sorry, but that court is hell for any team to play on.

Untold is just butt-hurt…look dood/doodette there are all sorts of debates about who invented Calculus, who flew first, who invented the radio…just get over the fact that Jones gets the credit that your “dude/guy” should get.

I have never seen a bigger bunch of babies, than some of the h8ters on this site. “Waaaaah, Matt Jones”…my advice move on.

I don’t like Markos Moulitsas, I don’t waste my time at the Daily Kos ragging on him. A lesson some of you might profitably learn.

I just follow this guy. He says Stopps wants Brown, but Brown might end up with a head coaching job elsewhere. THAT is a valuable insight only someone with inside information would have…REALLY, man I am glad you have your version of Deep Throat to keep us informed.

Hey, while you’re at it do you think your “guy” could answer a couple of questions for me:
    1) Is water still wet; and
    2) Is the Pope Catholic?

‘Cuz your “guy” sounds like the connected sort of fellow that might be able to answer those pressing questions.

Not defending the dude, but he was asked about it after he put it out. It’s not like the dude is putting out his own info, just relaying what someone else has said. Nothing wrong with that. A lot of people have a problem with matt claiming inside info when he puts stuff out there but then flips put at people if they say it’s wrong. Quit turning on each other.

Was just looking at some nba mock drafts to check out where our players are being projected as of now. I noticed russ smith of the tards is listed in the first round of almost every mock draft now. who would have thunk it?

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t a player break the news about Stoops a day before anyone else. KSR did put the tweet out though.

I see us going 4-1 as the Pricktino and the Tards scare me this year! And, I for one am tried of people bashing Matt and the KSR crew, they do a great job and are entertaining. So take your crap elsewhere!

Umm, I’m pretty sure Vandy won at Xavier, and that’s better than any win UK currently has.
