Saturday Afternoon Notes

yitit

Notes on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon:

— The UK football scrimmage is today and is the last major hurdle before the season gets started Saturday in Cincinnati. The Cats will have the final depth chart in place by tomorrow and hope to get some stability at the position battles still up in the air (at WR and in the non-Trevard secondary). We will have more later on the game, but one thing has become clear…this is Hartline’s team and moustache or no moustache, the season’s tale will be told in large part by his performance.

UPDATE: Chris Matthews and Randall Cobb were named the two WRs today after the scrimmage with Kyrus Lanxter and Gene Mccaskill the first two off the bench. Good games today from Derrick Locke and Donald Russell at the RB position.

— I will say that Facebook has changed birthdays in this world now. Whereas before one could count on his mother, grandmother and very close friends remembering, now its a day full of messages, calls and wall posts. I appreciate all of you who sent me a message, as it was very kind. And a special thanks to Buzz Baker, Doyel, Goodman, Chip Cosby and Clay Travis for sending their thoughts and to Beisner and the KSR guys for setting the whole thing up. Of course all took off today, but we still love them.

— I spoke this morning to a former Wildcat who was on campus this week watching the players and his direct quote was “my favorite Freshman is Eric Bledsoe. When all is said and done he will have the best UK legacy.” Thats gotta make you excited.

— One rarely comes off a birthday night out with a funeral, but I hope you saw at least some of the Ted Kennedy mass this morning. Beautiful service and highlights the best of what American public service is about with all the former Presidents and Senators in attendance.

— Remember I will be on the radio with Dave Ragone tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm on 970 AM and louisvillesportsbuzz.com . Make sure and check it out and call in if you can…just to show Ragone which team is boss.

More later tonight…tomorrow we will have a number of posts from the Who Wants to be a Blogger contest and get ready for the first Football live blog of the season on Thursday at 7:30 pm as Beisner, Tomlin, Mosley, Turkey Hunter, Bomani, the rest of the KSR crew and I blog during the NC State-South Carolina game. As the Grammy and Miss USA Live Blogs attest, the less we care about the event, the better it is.
