Sanders, Cobbins, and Caffey charged with possession of marijuana

The ugly gets uglier.

We learned before Saturday’s kickoff that Raymond Sanders and Bookie Cobbins would sit out for a violation of team rules. Today, it was discovered that the “violation of team rules” was weed.

According to LEX 18, Sanders, Cobbins and Marcus Caffey were charged with possession of marijuana Thursday evening, just two days prior to the game. The three Wildcats have a date with the judicial system on October 9.

Make it stop.

well, if WKU didn’t seal it for him I guess lack of control of the team will definitely do it for him. Making it much easier for Barnhardt to do his job and cut his losses with Joker. We don’t even need a campaign to fire Joker, his players are now doing it for us!

  15. Rich
    12:27 pm September 17, 2012 Permalink

Well, that’s probably the final nail in the coffin. UK won’t ever be relevant in football. Being competitive should not be the team’s or fan base’s goal any longer. Find a high profile coach, pay him Calipari money and get this thing on the right track. That’s the only way. Unfortunately UK is in a catch 22, no booster money without wins, can’t win without facilities and a coach. Hope it gets better, but I’ve been saying that for almost 40 years.

People like to throw out this idea that we can just pay a coach “Calipari money.” It isn’t that simple. We were able to bring in a high profile basketball coach because we are a high profile basketball team (yeah, the money helped). Even if we had the money to dish out, why would a high profile football coach come here? You really don’t think there are other programs willing to dish out that same money?

Full scholarship athletes that do garbage like this make me sick. I can understand the whole “Theyre college kids, whatever.” If your gonna smoke why not just wait until the offseason at least? These guys are on FULL SCHOLARSHIP to play football and theyre just trying to piss it away. People make mistakes and Im no different, but when you are going to school for free (while most people have $20k of student loans hanging over their heads when they graduate) then it shows just how little respect these idiots have for the program, the school, the coach, the fans, the sport, etc…

They gotta go. We arent Tennessee, No room for this mess on our team. They atleast need to learn how not to get caught. I know it is just weed and i know alot of them do it. I have no problem with that. the problem is they were caught and now they have to go to court. This team, now more then ever, does NOT need this kind of negative attention with all the other bad shit happening… National attention as of now for UK football has to be Shitty coach, shitty team, and arrested players. Awesome…

Don’t care if everyone else on campus does it. Everyone drinks too & they should not be drinking during the season. Seems they may be more interested in being bmoc and partying than winning football games.

Bookie has been a total waste of space and a distraction since he got here.. and if he’s as big of a dick as some of suggested – he needs to be sent packing – if for no other reason than to send him a lesson that you go nowhere acting like he acts. We don’t need losers like him on the team.

Here is the deal. These guys don’t care about their team – jus themselves. The team is in total free fall and they are out getting high. Their coach is embattled because THEY play like they dont care – when they are not suspended. What a waste of three scholarships. Adios.

  64. Get a Grip
    3:11 pm September 17, 2012 Permalink

Every team in the SEC has these problems. Its how you handle it that differentiates you from other coaches/programs. UGA still has players suspended that have yet to play all year! UT had to kick off Da’Rick Rogers to begin the season (supposedly for substance abuse). South Carolina had players living in a hotel and not paying their bills last year (Spurrier didn’t know – yea right). LSU had to kick of Tyrann Mathieu (for supposed substance abuse). Shall I continue? This happens at every level of college football at one time or another. Be glad you have a coach that actually enforces discipline! We have obvious X n O issues, esp. on D, but discipline is not the problem.

  65. Head Bussa
    3:18 pm September 17, 2012 Permalink

61 — It’s really not that big of a deal. It very well could be legal in small amounts within the next ten years. We waste too much money on punishing people who choose to do that. That stated, the guys need to be clean during the football season, no doubt about it. UK can do a better job ensuring that. I would also think that ALL PLAYERS should be refrained from drinking, but that’s not going to happen. So, in my opinion, these kids are no worse than that — guys who go out drinking. Hopefully, these kids will use this as a reason to stay clean (at least during the season) and things will work out for them. This does not make Raymond, Bookie, or Marcus bad kids in the least bit.

Is this where we want to be, really? Joker, get control of this team, you lost it along time ago along with the fanbase. At least have the decency not to run us completely in the ground like Billy Gillispie did the basktball program…. Difference there is that the administration knew they had to make a homerun hire… with football they don’t give a flip. Their goal is mediocrity, and I am sick of hearing the same excuses year in, year out. Maybe we can trade schedules with WKU? They are obviously alot tougher than we are… They can compete. This has embarassed UofK beyond belief, it should have never happened and will only get worse. I wish Joker could turn it around… but it never should have gotten this bad for him to HAVE to turn it around. Just Sayin’

Um no almost every team in the nation has players that smoke weed. Probably t least 25%. Yu really think they are the only ones on the team doing it. You really think kids on the basketball team don’t smoke weed. I was a dorm mate of football players at a PAC 12 school and at least 1/3 of the starters would smoke. You guys are dumb if you think someone should be kicked off the team for weed. I think like a 3 game suspension would be good and weekly drug tests

  68. CatomicBomb

67- I agree the suspensions are fine, unless they continue with the behavior. You have to give some kids a second chance, it might be the only one they get. But after that if they are too stupid to change, then you can kick them to the curb…. 🙂
