Sagarin Preseason Ratings Released: Kansas #1, Kentucky #2

Jeff Sagarin, known for his mathematical systems that rank various sports, released his annual preseason college basketball ratings with Kentucky slotted at #2 behind Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks who have yet to find more time. These ratings seem to agree with the other notable Sabermetric computer systems like Kenpom.com and BasketballProspectus.com which place Kentucky 1st and 2nd in the nation respectively. Rounding out the top five would be #3 Louisville, #4 Indiana, and #5 Ohio State. The general consensus among college basketball analysts, Sabermetric and traditional, seems to be that nation’s elite are listed above (give or take a few), but the order of those teams varies depending upon who you talk to.
In terms of Friday’s match-up at the Barclays Center in New York, Sagarin’s system predicts that Kentucky will win by an 11 point margin over #57 Maryland.
The ratings in their entirety can be found here.

CBS Sports has UK ranked #2 in their Top 25+1: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/storylist/20764980/25/preseason-top-25-+-1-countdown/no-2-kentucky
From CBS Sports article (by Gary Parrish): “So stop comparing this Kentucky team to last season’s Kentucky team and start comparing this Kentucky team to every other team playing college basketball this season. Then ask yourself the following question: Does anybody have more pure talent than these new-look Wildcats? The answer, once again, is probably no.”
Preseason rankings are about as usefull as a set of moose tits.
I have been thinking this for a couple days now, us winning pretty big on friday…. The way Cal downplays his teams it seems everyone falls into the trap, and even if the offense isn’t clicking on full speed the defense this team can play already is pretty darn good. And poster #2 I totally agree with that statement as well, who has our caliber of players regardless of experience? No one. Cat’s by double digits on Friday, momentum carries us to a 2 point win over Duke.
Moose Tits are probably quite useful for the female moose (the “cow”) to be able to nurse her young.
I understand why you picked a picture of Ravi Moss for this post (his jersey number is “2”), but it’s quite confusing as he doesn’t play for this year’s team nor has he played for us since the 2006 season…
The point of your post is to alert readers to the fact that Kentucky is ranked #2 in one of the many pre-season polls. Use a picture that shows a player from this year’s team to make your point, not a picture of a former player in a 2 jersey.
LOVE the usage of the Ravi Moss photo!
Hey look another bad Jonathan Schuette article!
I LOVE ME SUM MOOSE TITS!!!
6 Maybe they could get Nerlens Noel to model a number 2 jersey.
6. Instead of Ravi, they should have posted a pic of Kristen Pflum–his *cough, cough* “twitter friend”.
Moose tits lol, I love you guys. Shot of bourbon for anyone in Atlanta on Tuesday, i’ll be 11th row section 126 behind the rim, white Duke jersey.
Leave me out of this!
Haven’t we had a number 2 since Ravi Moss?
