Ryan Timmons will score touchdowns for Kentucky

Ryan Timmons will keep his talents in-state and play college football for the University of Kentucky.  Timmons announced his commitment to the Wildcats at a press conference from Franklin County High School this afternoon.

The explosive wide receiver from Frankfort sat at the table, in a black shirt-white tie combo, with four hats in front of him — Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio State and Florida — before picking up the UK hat and wearing it proudly as he unofficially became a Wildcat.  Tomorrow, he will sign his National Letter of Intent to join Mark Stoops’ inaugural recruiting class at Kentucky.

Timmons has the potential and athleticism to thrive in Neal Brown’s Air Raid offense.  It won’t be long before the end zone at Commonwealth Stadium is like a second home to him.

Coach Brown, your thoughts?

H.A. Milton – this is totally different than basketball rankings. Everyone needs to get out of that mindset. First of all just consider the difference of having to recruit for both offense and defensive players in football. In basketball they play both ways. Basically in football you have to recruit 22 positions. To be ranked in the top few hundred of all football players is huge. And lastly, it is much more difficult to evaluate football players. They don’t have AAU teams where all the talent is gathered in one place and they can be ranked. There is very little difference in being ranked #294 or #100.

  57. Downcline
    1:33 pm February 5, 2013 Permalink

#31, here’s a very unscientific way to judge your question. There are 127 BCS teams each able to have 85 scholarships. Say 1/4 of those scholarships are for incoming freshman, which it isn’t exact, that would be about 22 per team. So there would be 2800 incoming players every year, of course some go to JUCO, some do not play, etc. So if Timmons is #249 out of 2800, that would be pretty good.

  58. Jason
    1:34 pm February 5, 2013 Permalink

@31. You have to remember there are 50+ players per BCS team. And 120 BCS teams. A top #250 recruit isn’t bad at all. It’s pretty good.

    Ohio State–7 3 star commits
    Texas A&M–16 3 star commits
    LSU–9 3 star commits
    Georgia–15 3 star commits

    Auburn–12 3 star commits
    FSU–9 3 star commits
    Oklahoma–14 3 star commits
    Washington–14 3 star commits

These are all schools that are in the top 15 in recruiting so far this year. So what’s your point #13? I guess all these schools are just average as well?

OK, I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRE OF THESE DUMBASSES COMMENTING “ANOTHER 3-STAR”…. LET ME SCHOOL YOU:

THERE IS A RANGE THAT DETERMINES A 3-STAR
THAT RANGE IS 5.5 TO 5.7…YOU SAY ITS ONLY .3 OF A DIFFERENCE… YOU ARE WRONG,
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 5.7 TO 5.6 IS ABOUT 200 SPOTS,
THE DIFFERENCE FROM 5.6 TO 5.5 IS ABOUT 300 SPOTS.
MOST 5.7 GUYS ARE IN THE TOP 450 PLAYERS IN AMERICA.

SO A 3 STAR IS NOT JUST A 3-STAR RECRUIT… JOKERS HIGHEST AVERAGE STAR RATING WAS 2.46….. STOOPS IS 3. THAT IS A TON OF A DIFFERENCE… JOKERS RECRUITING WAS A STEP UP, YET WE NEVER CLEARED 60 IN CLASS RANKINGS… STOOPS IS NIPPING ON THE BUD OF A TOP 25 CLASS IN A MATTER OF 2 MONTHS.

ALSO, AS A TESTAMENT TO STOOPS’ RECRUITING AND COACHING ABILITY… BJORN WERNER WAS A 5.5 – 3 STAR PLAYER WHEN HE GOT TO FSU. THE KID IS A TOP 5 NFL DRAFT PICK….

SINCE I JUST SCHOOLED YOU, DONT BRING THAT WEAK ASS PESSAMISTIC VIEW ON HERE, TAKE TO FACEBOOK OR TWITTER, THIS IS A PLACE FOR #STOOPS TROOPS, WE DOIN SHIT HERE!

If Timmons stays out of trouble, he could be UK’s Tavon Austin or Sammy Watkins. His heart has come into question a few times… but if his head’s right, he’s got the ability to be one of the best ever to play in Commonwealth Stadium. The 4.0 40 yard dash time that Rivals has him listed is CONSERVATIVE at best! This kid has that 5th gear that so many others don’t.

#43…nevermind. I rechecked…Rivals only counts the top 20 commitments in its ranking. We added our 21st with Ryan Timmons (90 points) and dropped Regie Meant from the calculation. In order to crack the top 25, we have to get at least one more 4 star player.

  85. G-Unit
    2:11 pm February 5, 2013 Permalink

80 – You calculated wrong… they are right… What is KILLING us right now is we are having to count a 2-star which is only worth 45 points… If (which i think we will) land Hatcher, we drop the 2-star guy and gain 100 points… which would jump us to 22nd.

Just to follow up on your comment (#68), if UK only signed 20 players that were the same caliber as Ryan Timmons (5.7), then we would have a top 20 recruiting class (best we have ever had in recent history). Put that into perspective when you spout about “just another 3 star”.
