Ryan Timmons named one of the Top 25 SEC newcomers

Wonder how big Ryan Timmons could be to Kentucky’s success in the coming years? Saturday Down South, an SEC football blog, just named him one of their Top 25 SEC Newcomers for next season:

No. 25 — Ryan Timmons, ATH, Kentucky

From: Frankfort, Kentucky (Franklin County)
Size: 5-10, 180-pounds, 4.40 40-yard dash

The Skinny: Kentucky just signed their next Randall Cobb in do-it-all in-state star Ryan Timmons. Timmons was a priority for Mark Stoops as the recruiting cycle wound down in the last few weeks, and Stoops was able to wrestle him away from giants Ohio State and Florida. Timmons played receiver, quarterback and running back and returned kicks in high school, and he showed his versatility and was electric doing them all. In the open field, Timmons is devastating, making defenders miss in space while also being a burner as a north-south runner who can take big plays to the house. During his junior and senior seasons, Timmons rushed for 2,688 yards and 46 touchdowns while catching 71 passes for 2,104 yards and 43 touchdowns. He’s also the 100-meter dash champion in the state.

Where he’ll make an impact: Kentucky is not known for an abundance of top in-state prospects, but it’s imperative the Wildcats land players like Timmons in the future. We’ve grown accustomed to skill position players making early impacts, and Kentucky needs receivers in the worst way. Timmons will fit right into the Wildcats’ new air attack led by Neal Brown, and he gives them a big-time deep threat as well as on designed quick screens on the outside. Timmons will likely make a bigger impact on special teams than offense to start, but he’ll get his touches on offense, too. Stoops has Timmons to build around for the future.

The term “next Randall Cobb” should not be used lightly, but Timmons may fit the bill. He not only has the skill, speed and versatility to make an impact at several different positions, but he’s already familiar with Neal Brown’s offense, which is similar to what he operated under at Franklin County.

Still blue about the basketball Cats? Spring practice starts in one month.

Kind of ironic. Usually it’s the job of the football Cats to get us to basketball season. Now it’s the job of the basketball Cats to get us to spring football.

This kid should have been Mr. Kentucky football, but as usual, the voting was bias. Can’t wait for Football this year. Kentucky is back!

Gotta love that Timmons is getting some respect. Our receiving corps is going to be lethal.

G-Unit, make a few phone calls and find out the status of Lawson and Hearns.

#9. Just a thought, but Louisville has never recruited a Mr. Kentucky Football outside the city of Louisville. UK – 11; Louisville 6. Enjoy it while you can little brother.

Mark it down, Ryan Timmons will be better than Randall Cobb in a UK uniform. James Quick, who is that?
