Ryan Harrow will not play tonight or Friday

It’s the question on everyone’s mind right now: will Ryan Harrow play tonight? According to Coach Cal, Harrow will not play tonight or Friday. Harrow left town this morning with his mom to tend to a family issue:
Ryan did some treadmill & individual work on Mon and lifted weights on Tues during practice to get physically ready to get back on the court

Unfortunately, Ryan left town this morning w/ his mom to tend to an issue w/ his family & we don’t expect him back in time for Friday’s game
— John Calipari (@UKCoachCalipari) November 21, 2012
#BBN, please keep Ryan and his family in your prayers and we hope to have him back soon.

WTF is going on?
This doesn’t sound good. I wonder if he ever plays for UK again.
No doubt. I hope everything is ok, but really dont understand this whole deal.
So no point guard this year?
I keep getting the feeling that Ryan isn’t satisfied with his role on the team or some aspect and may be reconsidering his choice to play. I really hope there is not a medical issue and or other issues that could have serious effect further in his life. It may have been the All-Access and seeing hw Harrow reacted to cal’s coaching.
Suffering from depression And anxiety. Has to be. We need him back ASAP
Wow… how did being sick with mono and Thanksgiving break just turn this kid into Rashaad Caruuth in some fans minds?
Polson is really going to have to step it up.
Something about this whole Harrow thing seems awfully fishy. There is definitely more than we know. I’m calling a conspiracy theory!
something big time is wrong with this whole thing. KRS, do you have any insight? I hope the best for him and his family, just sounds like something is terribly wrong
2nd Tweet. Can be read two different ways.
Like many of us have been saying, Harrow is not sick. I hope everything is ok for him and his family but its quite obvious we’re not being told whats really happening.
Coach Cal using the word “unfortunately” is a little concerning……………..unless he is referring to Ryan’s
family problem(s).
Yeah, he’s probably done at UK.
Harrow…Gone!
never should have recruited this kid . he’s no pg for sure .
#7 – burger – I know your talking about my boy. Rashaad Caruuth was no Alex Legion.
BTW, I never rubbed oils into Ryan Harrows shoes.
But the way these media outlets have been handling the situation might make people think Ryan Harrow is a primadonna who’s getting ready to ruin his life by being the only point guard to ever quit John Calipari.
Can you imagine being the only point guard to quit THE BEST POINT GUARD COACH IN BASKETBALL HISTORY? How much weed do you have to smoke to go there?
I’m now convinced he’s transferring. I’ll have to be proven wrong before I believe this family issue isn’t deciding whether to stay or go…
And with Harrison twins coming in next year, find it hard to believe he returns…
Very sad to hear. He seems like a great kid. I’m wondering what in the world is the problem???
(1) HIV – doubtful
(2) Depression – possibly
(3) Homesick – likely
Completely being serious. Could cancer be a possibility here? 1-2 weeks for bloodwork. Family meeting. No comments from anyone about what is wrong. Hopefully this isnt the case.
#10- why are you asking KRS 1? How would he know? Maybe boogie down productions has some insight?
GOSPEL OF THE DAY: If Ryan Harrow leaves UK, we will never hear about him again.
“Coach tells me to quit showboating… Momma, that’s what I do!”
“Coach tells me this isn’t the University of Ryan Harrow… I’m THE POINT GUARD. THIS IS POINT GUARD U.
“He said I could be THE KING, now he says I should pass the ball”
“Momma, I don’t have to take this from anybody… it’s mental abuse”
20- I thought that too. They said he lost 7 pounds and cut his hair?
Everyone stop and give this kid a break! He’s been sick for 2 weeks and now has a family issue. There is no reason the specifics on these 2 issues need be public for you guys to debate on message boards. Prayers for Ryan and his damily
I think he truly has been sick lately – he played like he was sick during the Maryland game (he seemed easily winded, lethargic, etc.)
I don’t see him wanting to transfer bc he doesn’t feel good enough like some people are implying – the whole BBN has been very encouraging for him to come back.
My first thought was honestly that he is MORE sick that we know. Either way, there’s more going on that Cal is trying to help him get through.
I DO NOT think we should be judging this – Cal has always tried to help his players get through things they need help with on their own. DeAndre Liggins sat out for what turned out to be eligibility issues, and Cal never even speculated on why he wasn’t playing so that DeAndre didn’t get negative press. It was only during the All Access UK program that he admitted Terrence Jones was having personal problems at the time of the Indiana game (and that general part of last season) that impacted his playing. I don’t think Cal should tell us more; I think he handles these things well.
Wow, now someone with some heart will have to step up and play lead guard; maybe a combination of a couple players so Archie can spend most of his time as the off guard. Of course if we are lucky it could work out for him.
we didn’t want you either .
1. If this truly is a family issue that doesn’t involve hurt feelings, ego then I do pray that it is swiftly resolved in a positive way.
2. However, If this situation doesn’t involve truly troubling family issues, then I believe Harrow should really set and think about what the entire Team thing is about. How he was brought in for a role that would support his fellow team mates, how they all made the choice to go to Kentucky depending on Cal to select a group of guys to work with one another, and how he should not let them down.
BBN just needs to stop eating our own. That’s not cool.
It is not homesickness. He was here all last year. This sounds like a serious issue, probably medical. Lets please quit speculating and offer him support. I am sure he wants to play for UK. He sat out a whole year for the opportunity. Lets hope for the best.
My gosh… you people are ridiculous. I really hope that he comes back and tears this season up and if that happens I’ll be here to remind you all how much of fairweather fans you all really are. You all make UK sports look bad.
Whether or not he returns to the team I just hope his health is OK. In my opinion as long as you’re healthy you’re wealthy.
Whatever the problem, it’s 3/4 yrs and ongoing…………
according to his hs coach and NSU fans……
Cancer was just brought up in the discussion! Who does that? Yall are ridiculous! Chill out he will be fine. Harrow is a baller just trying to adjust his game to cals game plan. Its the beginning of the season and yall are talking about cancer haha out of control
It’s possible the sickness and the family issue are two unrelated things, and more a weird coincidence than anything. But from what I observed on All-Access, Harrow was having a ton of trouble dealing with Cal’s approach. Here’s hoping this is all just a strange progression of events and nothing more… but it’s getting hard to believe that’s the case.
Whatever happens, let’s wish him and his family the best and pray everything is OK.
Why all the secrecy around Harrow’s illness and family issue?
Gee, maybe Harrow just doesn’t suffer from the common mental disorder that afflicts so many people these days, causing them to want to share every aspect of their lives via Twitter or Facebook? Yes, I said it.
I don’t care if he plays another game as long as his health improves. His health is more important than playing basketball games.
I don’t think he is handling the pressure too well and it is making him sick. Probably going home to talk to his family about what he should do.
Remember how people judged Dusty Mills after he complained about BCG? Saying he was soft and not KY material. Yeah, those people look like idiots now. Well maybe people should let the facts play out before criticizing a player. If he is battling anything related to depression or panic/anxiety, I feel deeply for him. Get well Ryan. the REAL BBN does not eat their own.
37) Indeed, the kid’s having some troubles, and in actuality, Cal probably can’t even discuss what’s going on if it’s medical (privacy laws). Hopefully Harrow can get healthy/happy/whatever and come back as soon as possible. He didn’t sit on a bench here all last year to not get to play this year, and Cal picked him to be his point guard, so it’s not like Cal has no faith in him to make him want to leave.
34. Not over reacting but cancer does fit in this story. Could be nothing and I’m not going to think much about it but I think it’s a real possibility
You all are vicious. Maybe the comment section needs to be turned off.
hope everything is ok but i am getting the sense he won’t see much court time and will always be that guy who has something wrong (family, sick, ankle hurts, whatever). he is either gone or won’t play much this year.
Perhaps Alex Legion’s Mom has something to do with this.
hate to say it but this is sounding more and more serious. hope he gets well is able to play for us. maybe he just needs to go home and stuff himself with his mom’s turkey
Whatever is happening to Ryan I wish him the best. But let’s look at this from a different angle. What does this do to Archie’s draft stock? Archie is a two guard and his lottery draft potential rides on him performing at the 2. If he has to play PG does that cause his draft to fall?
19. How is homesick likely? He was here all last year?
Prayers to Ryan and his family.
quit jumping to conclusions. we don’t know anything. HIV? Cancer? Really??? People get sick. He’s not back to 100%. He may have just gone home for the holiday to take a little more time to get rested and healthy again.
Get well Ryan
Come on, guys, stop conspiracy theory-ing it up. Yes, we clearly aren’t privy to everything going on in this situation, and rightfully so! These guys deserve their privacy. We, as fans, are not entitled to know everything that is going on in their lives. If Harrow and Cal want to eventually say exactly what is going on, they will. Until that time, just keep Harrow and his family in your thoughts, and if you are religious, in your prayers. For my part, I’m wishing Harrow a speedy recovery from whatever ails him, and all the best for he and his family.
Get your $#!+ straight son
Remember how Cal always says this is a Players First Program? Well that includes doing what is best for the players, not the fans. Cal knows the details of the situation with Harrow and he doesn’t need to share it with the fans. So, as fans, we need to support the players too. I hope all is well with Harrow and his family.
Way too many UL fans posting on this site. Real UK fans just wish him the best, and hope whatever is going on gets resolved.
I agree with everyone saying Harrow needs his privacy. These young men don’t have to turn their lives inside out for our entertainment. Everyone needs to back off and breath deeply. We’ll be fine as UK fans and individuals.
Julius Mays in three games has 14 assists and 4 turnovers. I know he was brought in to shoot the three but why not let him run the point?
The Curious Case of Ryan Harrow
Does anyone know what Scott Bishop’s take is on this???
Get well and take care of your business Ryan. You have the support of BBN while you take care of yourself and your family. Don’t listen to the haters and gossip whores.
In his absence I think Julius would be fine at the point for us and maybe exactly what this young teams needs. Polson can back him up fine and Archie can help if he needs to but I think most of us would agree he helps our team alot more at the 2 guard.
Love the UK haters posting on this site. Its obvious UK fans want the best for the kid. It doesn’t matter whats going on.
got some inside info… this is all a cover up my friends… he can’t take the heat.
21- why am I asking KSR…..because you would think KSR has some contacts and some inside info, but probably not…apparently not
Judging by his crying on the All Access Show, I diagnosis either PMS or a yeast infection.
46 — Him playing point successfully will do nothing but help his draft stock. The NBA knows he can play the 2, but they prefer their guards nowadays to be more of a combo-guard type and would love to see him become a good point guard. If he shows he can play the point guard position, his stock will rise big time.
I’ve heard that he actually poops ice cream. Literally…
#54 – Is that your excuse for everything? You need to suck it up and realize that you have some POS fans in BBN. Not all are as obviously there are some here who truly care for the health of the kid, but don’t kid youself in thinking that these are UL fans saying these things.
#62 You were actually asking “KRS” but I’m sure he knew what you meant and was just being smart lol
61 — That’s what I figure. He’s a kid with some mental issues who really doesn’t handle the competition aspect of basketball well. Cal needs to get him seeing a counselor or something. The kid could transfer again, but will be basically blowing his entire future if he does so. His mom needs to advise him to do the right thing, stay strong, and get help from an expert.
Big old case of CantCutItAtKentucky-itis. Go home scrub, you are costing us a good season, enjoy being a rec-league superstar the rest of your life you bum because you can’t make it at the NCAA level.
Whatever the circumstances are none of it sounds good, I’m saying a prayer for the kid and his family. In the scheme of things, there are times when too much emphasis is placed on sports when there are actually real life issues that warrant care and compassion. Happy Thanksgiving! Be safe BBN.
69 — You’re an idiot. The kid is far from a “scrub” and he is not “costing us a good season.” One monkey don’t stop no show
I’m going with 6. on this one. Squeaky voice kid. All Access showed someone who may have social anxiety. Also, high pressure to play point for Cal…JMO
I wish R Harrow and his family all the best….regardless of what issue it may be.
I do believe a big red flag was Calipari’s comment from earlier this week that Ryan would be “low man on the totem pole” and he would have to earn his spot back…. This does not sound like he is speaking of a player coming back from a mysterious illness?
Harrow family
In our thoughts
In our speach
In our hearts
#53 – ULFAN – Of course you would say that.
Go protect your bird somewhere else, it’s bird cooking season. Get ready!
67 lol, im not good with acronyms, too many at my work place
As an ex-healthcare worker, whenever I hear things like this, I always fear the worst. I hope Harrow and his family are okay.
And yes, I am afraid that cancer or a more serious health condition might be the issue here.
This is happening again to him, this is a story from 2 years ago in high school! It is posted on the NCState board. It reads EXACTLY the same as today, even to the “best wishes” and “just take some time off to get well”. Scarry stuff, Jared… lace them up tight, your time to shine has come…..
sorry, with link http://www.statefansnationforums.com/topic.php?id=864
I’m a doctor. Seriously. If someone told me a twenty year-old male suffered from constant fatigue, blood work negative for mono or flu, I would then test him for HIV. If you were then to tell me this individual was a UK basketball player whose lifestyle would makes it easier to have access to multiple sex partners my suspicions would be even stronger. Just saying.
Just watched the Exhibition highlights and kid is probably sick. He’s talking, he’s dishing, he’s scoring. He’s not scared of the hype, etc. I think he just wants some R&R and is really sick. Probably getting more tests at home maybe. Everyone is silent on this one b/c it’s possibly serious. But it’s not b/c of the spotlight.
#54 Nope that’s how some of our fans really act.
#46 I’d say it’s going to help him get better
#54: Can you help him get over his Toxic Shock Syndrome?
Sad story to hear about such a great young man. I hope everything works out for Ryan, I don’t care if he plays another game for UK as long as he has his health. Thats way more important than playing a game of basketball. With that being said, when do you all think something will be leaked out about the situation?
People who are speculating that Ryan Harrow has cancer partially because he has cut his hair need to understand chemo causes your hair to fall out. You don’t cut the rest of it off until you are already losing it in bunches. You wait to see if you will lose any, just a little, or a lot of hair. He hasn’t been sick long enough to have reached that point. If he has been diagnosed with cancer he probably would still be deciding which treatment option was best for him. When my husband underwent chemo the doctors didn’t think he would lose any hair but he lost the hair on 1/2 of his head, the 1/2 where 95% of the chemo was injected. Only after he started looking funny with 1/2 a head of hair did he cut off the rest of his hair.
All that said, can’t we just leave the kid alone, say a prayer for him and his family, and let this situation play itself out.
#81 Dr. Jake – Take a look at http://www.statefansnationforums.com/topic.php?id=864, HE IS PASSED OUT ON THE COURT OF HIS HIGH SCHOOL GAME this is nothing new any feedback?
Didn’t realize basically every doctor in the world is a UK fan and reads this site.
Let’s not be derogatory and speculative at the same time, folks. Let’s just wish him and his family the best, regardless of what’s led to his time away.
I think we can make some logical conclusions…..
1) Would be very surprised if it’s homesickness, he’s been here a year
2) Could be legit sickness and family issues – could be the case but seems unlikely
3) Confidence issues? He’s got a rep for not being able to finish at the rim, add that lack of confidence to anxiety issues and it’s probably the case here
If I waited a year on the bench and had Cal handing me the keys to the offense to a top 5 team, there’s no way I’m going home short of a major family emergency, I’m
going to be working every minute tog et my sport back running this team
This is a critical time in the season an also a time where previous transfers have left.
If it is a family issue, then prayers out to the family.
If it’s anything but that, then it’s #3 above – you can’t be the leader of this team by being sick and then going home for a non-emergency during a critical part of the season
It is good to see that the majority of UK fans are being compasionate toward Ryan and his family. BBN, let’s just wish Ryan a speedy and healthy recovery and at some point down the road we can all stop speculating. 30 – 31- 32 and others…thank you for your attitude and positive comments.
The only thing that matters is that Ryan Harrow gets better. His health and personal wellbeing are vastly more important than basketball (even KY basketball).
Whether or not he is ever able to play point for the Cats again, I hope for the best for him.
Ryan, please don’t read some of these comments on here – it could be detrimental to your mental health! That being said, the fact that Cal tweeted for BBN to say a prayer for Ryan and his family makes me worry that something serious is going on – either with Ryan himself or with a family member. In either case, we need to heed Cal’s request and say a prayer that things will get better for Ryan and his family, whatever the situation may be. I don’t blame Cal a bit for not disclosing the situation at this time – people still have a right to privacy, and the whole story will come out in due time. Until then, we as the fans need to support the team and wish Ryan the best.
86) did you know that a lot of cancer patients proactively shave their head in anticipation of the loss? Thanks for the medical lesson though, I think 99% of people know why cancer patients loss their hair.
He’s gone…. Wish him the best and hopefully ill be wrong but I strongly feel he doesn’t play another game for UK
It’s all these speculations and UNINFORMED assumptions that make me a little embarrassed sometimes to be a UK fan. Just leave it be and hope and pray the kid’s ok.
Hey people, it’s NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!! The kid may be very sick!
Second, DeAndre Liggins was suspended for the love of mary jane I believe
Putting all the pieces together from the past (http://www.statefansnationforums.com/topic.php?id=864), his departure, and now Coach Cal’s tweet, we won’t be seeing him play any time soon. It appears to be something very serious, we can only pray that it can be corrected for Ryan’s long term health. It is clearly a pivotal time in both Ryan’s life and this year’s Wildcat team. We are outsiders looking into the fishbowl of the nations primier basketball program with great pride; when anything occurs we want to know the details. In this instance we may be witnessing in real time something tragic. We as BBN fans need to rally and as alway support both the team and our point gaurd Ryan Harrow.. Pray for his health…
Dirk Koetter is more and more looking like he would be a great hire. Only problem is trying to out bid the NFL if he’s a HC candidate as speculated.
#98, I sure hope you are wrong, but if there is a threat to Ryan’s help, I do hope that Cal will address the issue so that all of this other “not tough enough” speculation can end and all of BBN can get on board praying for him and supporting him. Sometimes a lot of love pouring out from total strangers can be uplifting. As it did for Lane – may he RIP. Once again, hopefully it is nothing nearly that serious.
I hope it’s nothing serious and this young man is able to get whatever help he needs, but a family emergency is a reason you give your employer when you need to haul a$$ fast and you dont want them to ask about any specifics. Hope he is ok but I am sure you will never seem him at UK again.
His health is really none of our business. Would you want someone speculating on your health? Give him and his family privacy to get through whatever issues there might be. We will be fine regardless.
I found the following link interesting: http://www.statefansnationforums.com/topic.php?id=864
Is Ryan’s current situation similar and/or linked to the one from (2) years ago? Note the statement from 2010, “His Coach says he will get a few weeks off to rest.”
Fast recovery to Ryan.
This is weird & shady
94 – I think most people take a wait and see approach unless they have terrible hair to begin with, which Harrow doesn’t. I believe the report wasn’t that he shaved his head but that he got a haircut. For people to use a haircut to speculate that Harrow has cancer is pushing it. He probably wanted to look good for the holiday and was tired of the flattop.
#71- “One monkey don’t stop no show.” Love the Ernest quote!
Please block the isp of the 2 or 3 idiots posting on here. Wont stop them completely but will slow them down.
I think it was Col Mustard in the library!
Damn that Col Mustard!
He’s transferring with out a doubt. Anxiety and the spotlight is a bad mixture for him. Wish him the best of luck but UK isn’t the place for him. He jolted from NCST when he knew Purvis was taking his spot. Good luck.
You Cretins critical of Harrow are pathetic. Go back to your hovels and pray for intelligence.
My brother Bob said to tell you all hey. I hope Ryan is ok but I don’t think he likes to be yelled at.Every time he talks about Cal he mentions yelling I don’t think he responds well to the yelling, I know I wouldn’t. Kentucky is not for everyone. He is going to transfer. The kid has the talent or Cal wouldn’t have went after him. I just hope it’s not medical issues. Good luck Ryan in what ever you chose to do. Go CATS!
Anal leakage
Playin with OUR heads. All Access was staged for us and opposing teams. All is fine. cal does know best.Ryan will come on strong when he is needed, all will be fine.
Harrow is getting more sympathy on the U of L boards than here….pretty discouraging.
I just hope this doesn’t open up a scandal. If he rode him too har and he lets the “Ca”l out of the bag, Oh My! That’s trouble.
