Rupp Arena renovation project expected to move forward today
According to the Herald-Leader, the Urban County Council is expected to approve two measures that would give the city of Lexington $2.5 million in state money to begin the planning and design phase of the Rupp Arena district project. The council will vote on the measures this afternoon.
Once the city has the money, they can start accepting bids and hire architects and project managers. Frank Butler, the project director for the Rupp district project, told the council this week that three consulting firms have already started doing preliminary work.
Just in case you need a reminder, here are the renderings we’ve already seen of what a renovated Rupp could look like.
No word yet on the running horses.

UK should display its national championship banners apart from runner-up and final four banners and not wait for remodeling to do so. Actually, since UK is all about championships, why not display only national championship banners?

That “fire” is from the UK Coal plant that powers all of UK. It sits right in between where Limestone splits into limestone and upper.

The smoke is coming from the Physical Plant at the Limestone/Upper “Y” south of Pazzos/Kennedy’s.
I hope for that money they will add more seats, so more fans can go, leave off the private bars and flashing lights, just make it a great place for college basketball players and fans.
How many is it supposed to seat?
