Rupp Arena press conference set for Wednesday afternoon

rupp-arena

On Wednesday afternoon, we may find out a lot more about the future of Rupp Arena. Lexington mayor Jim Gray, Kentucky governor Steve Beshear, and the Lexington Center board are holding a press conference to discuss the current state of the project Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

No word yet if UK will send a representative (likely Eli Capilouto or Mitch Barnhart) to participate; if they don’t, you’ve got to think that’s a bad sign as to how negotiations between the two parties are going on the project. Stay tuned…

If Lexington can not find ways to fund money to up grade Rupp Arena example(donors), well they should consider getting Toyota in Georgetown and the Horse Industry that is two major money making companies in our state to help use as resources to make things happen! There is also the Coal industry and tobacco companies that can help as well… But, with that said some pundits wouldn’t approve of coal or tobacco to be associated in funding Rupp or any other projects in Lexington!!! If is about making money for economy and the university then they honest need to consider these options. Papa John’s and other food that is based in Kentucky like KFC and others could pitch in too

If Steve Beshear is attending then I would be surprised if UK does not send representatives and show support. Beshear is a member of BBN and has been a huge supporter of UK. UK will not disrespect Beshear. Personally, I would prefer to see a new basketball arena built on the UK campus and owned by the university. But I also generally dislike the majority of the UK administration, so I enjoy seeing them get snubbed on things.

Some more things to think about is UPS in Louisville, they could help as well! Food for thought I was a the Arizona Diamondback stadium and they had a “Visit Las Vegas billboard” inside their stadium… Get Kings Island to help donate throw a Kings Island billboard inside Rupp Arena give the big wigs season tickets in exchange or something! It can happen they just need creative minds to get in done that is all

Why don’t we just get Little Ceasars to sponsor it. We could have a nice new arena named “Pizza, Pizza Arena

The World Famous Two Keys Tavern Center or Tolly Ho Arena is fine with me.

Considering they recently completed interviews for the design team, I would think this press conference is likely to announce who they have selected for that design team. It’s probably not a big deal if UK isn’t represented there.

  9. Visit a Keeneland SKYBOX - it's awesome

I appreciate and support the idea of renovating Rupp Arena. Adding luxury skybox’s and making it a new state of the art, high tech, and gold standard college basketball arena is awesome! My only hope is we can make Rupp Arena the most INTIMIDATING college basketball arena to play in the country as well! Google the most intimidating college basketball arenas in the USA and it list the following.

    1 Duke, 2 Kansas, 3 Gonzaga , 4 Wisconsin , 5 North Carolina , 6 Michigan St. , 7 University of Kentucky

I hope with the renovation, some changes might be made to help move UK to number 1 on the list as the most intimidating place to play in the country.

#1&3…UK can’t touch the coal and horse money because of political correctness and Yum, Papa, UPS, Ford belong to Tom Jurich because Mr. Barnhart and the administration spun their wheels…Say what you will, but TJ doesn’t play games when it comes to raising money and getting things built…Ask Jim Host…
