Sometimes stories just fit together. Case in point, yesterday John Calipari told the media that he might still have one more addition to the 2010 roster. Then late last night, a Minnesota college basketball writer tweeted that Royce White was “narrowing in” on Kentucky and that there was mutual interest between he and the school. For those of you that dont know White, he is an uber-talented kid who is probably the best player to commit to Tubby Smith at Minnesota. However he never showed up on the court after an incident at the Mall of America in which he was charged with shoplifting and assault. He was later considered a suspect (although no charges were ever filed against him) on a missing computer on campus, and the combination of the two incidents made his return to the court in Minnesota delayed. Then things sort of went strange and he ended up “quitting basketball”, before making the decision to try and return this year.
The Royce White story is an interesting one which we will get into more later. But this much is clear…on the court, he is a potential star. 6’8″, 250 pounds of raw basketball skill and he has an NBA future if everything else gets in gear. If he were to come to UK, his academic situation would likely make him ineligible until the Spring semester, but if he gets on a court, he would contribute from the get go.
