Before the contest last night between South Laurel (who looked dreadful) and Brentwood Academy, the announcer noted the various college coaches in attendance. Much to the chagrin of those who wanted to see Rick Pitino (both pro and con), the two big names in attendance were Bob Huggins, who is recruiting kids in this class even though he has no school, and Roy Williams. When Williams was announced, the reaction was interesting. The breakdown in the crowd was about half cheers and half boos and ol Roy handled it very well. He held up an ice cream cone (for reasons I cannot understand) and waved to the gathered masses.
It truly had to be a special day for Roy yesterday. Take a young team and win in the Bluegrass state and then go elsewhere in the state and watch a kid that you stole from Kentucky play and beat the Kentucky state champs handily. Williams just could not hold back his smile.
